Striking Out Snover (Japanese:VS ユキカブリVS Snover), titledVS Snover in theChuang Yi translation, is the 387th chapter of thePokémon Adventures manga, and the 50th chapter of theDiamond & Pearl arc.
It is subtitledSnowpoint and Candice (Japanese:キッサキとスズナKissaki and Suzuna) in theVIZ Media translation andSnowpoint and Candice in the Chuang Yi translation.
Plot
AsPlatinum stares at the poster in theSnowbound Lodge, she is shocked to learn that the girl who rescued her from passing out in the cold isSnowpoint City'sGym Leader,Candice. She is about to continue her route toLake Acuity, but decides to visit the city to thank Candice for her help. Platinum puts on her winter clothing, but before she can leave, she spotsMaylene through a window. When Platinum runs outside to greet her, Maylene reveals that she is heading to Snowpoint City to train with Candice. Eager to see Candice, Platinum invites herself to join.
As the two jog through the snow, Maylene is impressed that Platinum is able to keep up with her, especially since she has removed her winter coat. Maylene tells Platinum that she is visiting Candice to help her train against opponents whose attacks aresuper effective againstIce-type Pokémon, which Candice specializes in. Platinum is surprised that even a Gym Leader would still have much to learn. Maylene begins to mention that Candice has "special privileges," but she cuts herself off to announce that they've reached Snowpoint City.
Maylene points out the direction to Lake Acuity, and Platinum immediately tries to rush to it. Maylene stops her, then tells her that she should check with Candice before going there. She explains that Candice has "special privileges" because as a Gym Leader, she has a duty to protect theSinnoh region. Platinum thanks Maylene for walking with her, then departs for theSnowpoint Gym to speak with Candice. As Platinum leaves, Maylene wonders whereDiamond andPearl are.
Platinum enters the Gym and attempts to speak with Candice, but she is assumed to be a challenger. Platinum supposes she will have to fight her way through the Gym in order to speak with Candice. After solving puzzles and battlingTrainers, Platinum reaches Candice, who is delighted to see her. Platinum is finally able to thank Candice for rescuing her, and the latter is eager to begin their Gym battle. Platinum sends outEmpoleon as Candice summonsSnover. UsingMetal Claw, Empoleon quickly knocks out Snover. Impressed, Candice announces that her next Pokémon will be the one that she usually saves for last.
Watching through a nearby window, Maylene is surprised to see Platinum and Candice battling.
