Quilava Quandary (Japanese:VS マグマラシVSMagmarashi), titledVS Quilava in theChuang Yi translation, is the 108th chapter of thePokémon Adventures manga, and the 18th chapter of theGold, Silver & Crystal arc.
Plot
Inside thePokémon Day Care, the old woman and Gold look at some books. Gold seesRed and his Pokémon, and then showsPolibo Red'sPoli. Afterwards, Gold enters another room.
Upon entering the other room, the old woman puts bars in, trapping Gold, who finds angry Pokémon inside the room. Gold notices that all the Pokémon are elite fighters. A second into the battle, he is being chased by aTauros. Dodging more attacks, he hasExbo useSmokescreen, andTogebo, his newly nicknamedTogepi, useMetronome. Metronome becomesLeer, which hits anEkans. Exbo then usesEmber on aDonphan, who deflects it.
Following the instructions of the Day-Care Lady, Gold tells Polibo to useWater Gun. The attack hits Donphan and sends it flying.
InEcruteak City,Jasmine walks toward the Day Care. However, an earthquake hits and the ground underneath Jasmine's feet breaks, causing her to fall in.
Meanwhile, in the Day Care, aPrimeape usesCross Chop onSudobo. Sudobo counters withMimic. Noticing that Sudobo is taking more damage than Primeape, he hasSunbo useSunny Day. Then Exbo uses its powered-up Ember. Then Exboevolves into aQuilava.
The Day-Care Man hears a message on the radio: Ecruteak City has been hit by a major earthquake. TheDay-Care Couple starts to worry for Jasmine. But then the Day-Care Lady realizes thatsomeone can help...
In Ecruteak City, standing on boulders, Gold recalls the Day-Care Lady telling him that he's mastered the training and giving him aKing's Rock. They also asked him to look for Jasmine.
MeanwhileSilver isFlying via hisMurkrow over the ruins of Ecruteak City.
