The End of the Journey!! (Japanese:旅の終点！！The End of the Journey!!) is the sixty-first chapter of thePokémon Pocket Monsters manga.
Plot
After a long journey,Red,Clefairy, andPikachu return toPallet Town. Red says it's finally time to relax, but Clefairy says he doesn't think he can relax, claiming his father owns a fabric shop and that as an only child he should take care of the shop after returning home. However, he was lying, and he just doesn't know what to do after the journey ends. Red says they can do various fun activities and that he has finally completed hisPokédex. Upon arriving in the city, he finds it deserted and quiet. Several fireworks appear in the air, and two giant banners congratulating Red, Pikachu, and Clefairy are unfurled across the city. A crowd of Pallet Town citizens appears to welcome the trio. Red wonders how they know they were coming, since he didn't tell anyone.Professor Oak appears and explains that he prepared a surprise. Red is declared a Pokémon Master and a star of the city and he's going to participate in a parade. A reporter from Pallet Town TV appears to interview him, and the Miss Pallet Town duo arrives with a bouquet of flowers. Red and Pikachu receive a kiss from them, Clefairy prepares for his turn and is kissed by aJynx. Red, Pikachu, Clefairy, and Professor Oak get into a car and begin parading through the city. Red asks to stop the car after spotting his mother on the crowd, and he mistakenly hugs Clefairy dressed as his mom. Red's mom says she has prepared a feast for them to eat after the parade. Clefairy is thrilled.
AJumbotron on a nearby building has its signal interrupted, andGiovanni appears, announcing that he has sent a gift for Red to celebrate his great achievement, which will arrive in 10 minutes. One of Professor Oak'sAides appears and says that his radar is detecting a strange object coming towards Pallet Town. Giovanni's "gift" is revealed to be aTeam Rocket missile about to come destroy the city.
With 5 minutes remaining, Professor Oak has the idea to counterattack Team Rocket's missile with his own, but he hasn't finished it yet, so there's a high chance it will fail and not be able to destroy Giovanni's missile. Clefairy tells him not to give up and mounts Professor Oak's missile, saying he'll destroy Giovanni's missile with his own strength, promising not to die until he tastes Red's mother's feast. With 10 seconds left before the missile hits the city, Clefairy presses the launch button on his own and launches himself at Giovanni's missile.
The two missiles collide and cause a large explosion in the sky. Red shouts Clefairy's name loudly. Depressed by the presumed death of his companion, Red and Pikachu walk alone through the streets at sunset. Red says that every time he looks at Pikachu, he's reminded of Clefairy, and says that the two should part ways. Pikachu is reluctant, and Red tells him to listen to him as a trainer and return to the forest with the rest ofhis species. As soon as Pikachu leaves, Red apologizes to Pikachu, talking to himself.
Arriving home,Green,Blue, and Red's mom quietly greet him with the promised feast on the table. Red climbs the stairs to his room. Green says he understands how he feels but that he should eat so he doesn't go hungry. Red then exclaims that Green doesn't understand him and slams the door. Red lies down on the bed, and Pikachu lies down under a tree in a forest full of Pikachu. Separated, the two look up at the same time and remember Clefairy with fond memories.
