Turns the sunlight harsh when the Pokémon enters a battle. The ancient pulse thrumming through the Pokémon also boosts its Attack stat in harsh sunlight.

Orichalcum Pulse (Japanese:ひひいろのこどうHihiirokane Pulse) is anAbility introduced inGeneration IX. It is thesignature Ability ofKoraidon.

Effect

In battle

Orichalcum Pulse summonsharsh sunlight in battle as soon as a Pokémon with Orichalcum Pulse enters the battle. Its effects are the same as the moveSunny Day, which lasts for five turns. This can be extended to eight turns if the Pokémon is holding aHeat Rock.

Orichalcum Pulse also boosts the Pokémon'sAttack stat by roughly 33% (or more precisely, by a factor of 5461/4096) in harsh sunlight. This boost will occur even if the Pokémon is holding aUtility Umbrella.

Orichalcum Pulse displays a message when the Pokémon enters the battle, even if there already is harsh sunlight. However, if harsh sunlight is summoned or has faded while a Pokémon with Orichalcum Pulse already is in battle, no message is displayed (contrary toProtosynthesis).

Skill Swap fails if either Pokémon has Orichalcum Pulse.Trace can copy Orichalcum Pulse.Role Play,Entrainment, andDoodle all fail when used on a target with Orichalcum Pulse. Orichalcum Pulse is affected bySimple Beam andMummy.

Orichalcum Pulse will fail if overworld weather is present.

Outside of battle

Orichalcum Pulse has no effect outside of battle.

  • Orichalcum Pulse's name refers toorichalcum, a mythological metal found in ancient Greek texts.
    • Orichalcum Pulse's Japanese name refers tohihiirokane, a legendary metal found in Japanese texts and said to be harder than diamonds and to never rust. The word can also be spelled in kanji as 日緋色金hihiirokane, meaningsun-scarlet metal, possibly referencing the Ability's effect to set up harsh sunlight and Koraidon's status as the game mascot of Pokémon Scarlet.
