Trivia

Origin

Oni Mountain may correspond toMount Osore, a volcanic mountain in theAomori Prefecture in which its name literally means "dread" in Japanese. The mountain is also a pilgrimage destination with a temple located in the caldera. In Japanese mythology, this mountain is believed to be one of the gates to the underworld.

The Japanese name of Oni Mountain alludes to 鬼ヶ島Onigashima, the mythical island ofoni (a kind ofsupernatural entity in Japanese folklore akin to demons, ogres, and trolls) visited byMomotarō in Japanese folklore.
