Officer Jenny's Growlithe have been used in crime solving and serve as police dogs throughout much of thePokémon world. As such, they are frequently seenoutside of their Poké Balls. Growlithe debuted inThe Case of the K-9 Caper!, whereAsh andhis friends met up with anOfficer Jenny who trainedGrowlithe to act as police dogs. In this episode, the many Growlithe helped fend offTeam Rocket.

InThe Fourth Round Rumble, Growlithe usedFlamethrower to shoot down Team Rocket'sMeowth balloon.

Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver

InDon't Touch That 'dile, Growlithe was used to help locate aTotodile that was stolen by Team Rocket.

InAn EGG-sighting Adventure!, Growlithe was used to locate Ash's missingEgg.

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

InA Poached Ego!, Growlithe was used to help catch thePokémon poacher,Rico. Growlithe also appeared in the episodeThe Spheal of Approval.

InThe Ribbon Cup Caper, Growlithe was used to preventTeam Rocket from escaping theS.S. St. Flower with theRibbon Cup, which was intended for the winner of theHoenn Grand Festival.

InAll Dressed Up with Somewhere to Go!, an Officer Jenny wore a Growlithe hat during thePokémon Dress-Up Contest, both as a reference to her Pokémon and to follow thecosplaying theme. Growlithe also physically appeared in the episode.

InPokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! (Part 2), Growlithe fought alongside Ash's friends andSolana againstJ's client's henchmen.

InBeating the Bustle and Hustle!, Growlithe participated in a fakeSinnoh Pokémon Hustle set up by Team Rocket. After Officer Jenny caught up toAzure andCrimson, Growlithe fought against Azure'sDrowzee and managed to defeat it.

InIvysaur's Mysterious Tower!, Growlithe assisted Officer Jenny as she was holding traffic for a group ofIvysaur to cross the road.

InDreams Are Made of These!, Growlithe helped stop a group of Pokémon from fighting by using itsRoar to scare them away. Ash then proceeded to introduce Growlithe to the group he was in charge of during aPokémon Orienteering competition.

InA Little Rocket R & R!, Growlithe and Officer Jenny showed up to stop theMatori Matrix, but they escaped.

InSleuths for Truth!, Growlithe and Officer Jenny tried to find the thief who's stealing the electricity from the houses all aroundVermilion City together withInspector Decker. With Ash andGoh, they found out that the responsible isTeam Rocket, who wanted to feedMorpeko with it, and Growlithe usedSwift to try to stop their car.

InGetting to the Heart of it All!, Growlithe and Officer Jenny tried to track down aBanette that was stealing heart-shaped objects from people's homes.

Personality and characteristics

Growlithe as a puppy

Growlithe are very loyal towards each Officer Jenny, as shown in a flashback in their debut episode depicting one of the Growlithe as a puppy.

Growlithe are the signature Pokémon of the Officer Jennys working in theKanto,Johto,Hoenn, andSinnohregions, but they will sometimes use different Pokémon. The Officer Jenny inMutiny in the Bounty! used Growlithe's evolved form,Arcanine. In some parts of theworld, police forces will have special Pokémon teams, such asSpinarak inSpinarak Attack. The Officer Jennys of other regions use different Pokémon as Growlithe are not generally found there.

Growlithe briefly appeared inThe Power of Us, accompanying theOfficer Jenny ofFula City on her way to the pier to investigate a case of vandalism. It then helped Officer Jenny's team with their investigation on the crime scene.

Later on, it was seen helping Officer Jenny with the evacuation of the city.
