Mr. Rime (Japanese:バリコオルBarrikohru) is a dual-typeIce/PsychicPokémon introduced inGeneration VIII.

Itevolves fromGalarianMr. Mime starting atlevel 42. It is the final form ofMime Jr. in theGalar region.

Biology

Mr. Rime is a bipedal, humanoidPokémon. Like its pre-evolved formMr. Mime, it has growths resembling clown hair, but they are now black rather than blue and they cover the top of its head, resembling abowler hat. It has yellow eyes and a moustache that covers its mouth. Its black-and-white torso resembles a coat or tuxedo and a face, with yellowshirt studs for its "eyes", a red lump as its "nose", and a whitecummerbund for its "mouth". While its actual face remains almost expressionless, the features on its torso will change to convey emotions. Its lower body is blue and it has black and blue feet that resemble large shoes, presumably capped with ice. It has black spherical shoulders and blue arms with white, mitten-like hands. It always carries a blue formal cane made of ice.

Mr. Rime is highly skilled in tap dancing and waves its ice cane while it moves gracefully. It is popular due to its amusing movements and has been known to influence theMime Jr. of theGalar region to learn its dancing steps, leading them to evolve intoGalarian Mr. Mime. It can release psychic powers through the pattern on its belly. The comical dancing of Mr. Rime is said to be a calling card. The moment an enemy laughs at its amusing tap dancing, Mr. Rime quickly takes the chance to blast them with frigid air at −328 degrees Fahrenheit (−200 degrees Celsius).

Mr. Rime and its pre-Evolution, Galarian Mr. Mime, are theonly known Pokémon that can haveScreen Cleaner as anAbility.

Trivia

Origin

Mr. Rime seems to be based on amime, atap dancer, and silent film actorCharlie Chaplin's iconicTramp character. Like the Tramp, Mr. Rime appears to wear abowler hat, a black suit jacket, baggy trousers, and large dress shoes, along with carrying a cane and sporting a mustache. Mr. Rime is native to theGalar region, which is inspired by Charlie Chaplin's home country, theUnited Kingdom. It could also be derived from the "city gent," a fashion style commonly associated with London businessmen during the 1970s, which prominently featured the bowler hat.

Mr. Rime may also be based on aclown, since its feet resemble oversized clown shoes and the pattern on its round body resembles a clown face. It may also be inspired by the はらだしharadashi, a humanoidyōkai with a large face on its belly, and is known for visiting people who feel sad or lonely in order to cheer them up, sometimes by dancing.

Mr. Rime's desaturatedShiny coloration may reference the black-and-white color ofsilent films — Charlie Chaplin is considered to be one of the most famous silent film actors.

Name origin

Mr. Rime may be derived from the abbreviation ofMister andrime (a type of frost) orrhyme (since its name rhymes withMr. Mime).

Barrikohru may be a combination ofbarrier (referring to the invisible walls it can create) and 凍るkōru (to freeze).
