MelissabattledGary during the fourth round of theIndigo Plateau Conference. Melissa was shown to be a quite powerfulTrainer. As only one Pokémon remained in each Trainer's team, Melissa'sGolem defeated Gary'sNidoking, sending thePallet Town resident home. Melissa was not seen afterwards.

Melissa is male in the Japanese version, and female in the English version.

Melissa used herGolem as her final Pokémon in her battle againstGary. Gary told hisNidoking to useHorn Attack, but the Megaton Pokémon stopped the attack by grabbing Nidoking's horn. Golem took advantage of Nidoking's vulnerable position and usedSeismic Toss, defeating Nidoking and winning the match for Melissa.

Golem's only known move isSeismic Toss.

Melissa also has at least two other Pokémon, having faced Gary in a 3-on-3 battle.
