Mega Energy
- For the energy inPokémon Legends: Z-A, seeMega Power.

Mega Energy (Japanese:メガエナジーMega Energy) is a type ofcurrency inPokémon GO that can be used to induce temporaryMega Evolution inPokémon. It comes in multiple types, each corresponding to a specificevolutionary line. UnlikeMega Stones (which cause Mega Evolution in other media), Mega Energy can be used without aKey Stone.
Primal Energy is a functionally identical currency that is used to induce Primal Reversion inKyogre orGroudon, taking the place of theBlue Orb andRed Orb.
Mechanics
A certain amount of Mega Energy is required to cause a correspondingPokémon to undergoMega Evolution. After a Pokémon has Mega Evolved once, it will enter a rest period. Pokémon can Mega Evolve again at no cost after waiting out a rest period since its last Mega Evolution. The Pokémon can still Mega Evolve during the rest period by using Mega Energy at a reduced cost, which also decreases proportionally with the time remaining in the rest period.
If the Pokémon is latertraded, its Mega Level is reset, and it would cost the full amount again to Mega Evolve.
Theplayer can have a maximum of 9,999 of each Mega Energy at a time (2,000 prior to April 28, 2022, and 999 prior to October 15, 2020).
All of the above also applies to Primal Energy.
Acquisition
Mega Energy is received by completingMega Raids—Raid Battles with Mega-Evolved Pokémon asBosses. These corresponding to the Boss that was defeated, the amount ranging from 150 to 250 Mega Energy depending on how quickly the raid was completed. Likewise, Primal Raids reward Primal Energy corresponding to the defeated Raid Boss, but at a smaller amount ranging from 60 to 100 Primal Energy.
Mega Energy for certain Pokémon may also be received by completing certainResearch tasks.
Occasionally, spinning aPokéStop orGym may yield 5Beedrill Mega Energy.
As of November 1, 2020, Mega Energy and Primal Energy will be found by aBuddy Pokémon if the player has previously Mega Evolved a Pokémon in the sameevolutionary line and feeds itCandy. The amount that the Pokémon finds is directly proportional to itsBuddy distance, at a rate of 5 Energy per 1 km.
