Mallow's Shaymin (Japanese:マオのシェイミMao's Shaymin) is arecurring Pokémon character thatMallow befriended inPokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, and her second Pokémon overall. Mallow did notcatch this Pokémon, and therefore, she did not officially own it.

History

Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon

Shaymin first appeared inMemories in the Mist!, where it encounteredMallow after being drawn to her strong feelings of gratitude towardsher late mother. Mallow then decided to take it in until the time came for it to turn into itsSky Forme and fly away.

InDrawn with the Wind!, Shaymin traveled with Mallow and the others to Malie City. When Mallow's hair ornament was blown away by a gust, Shaymin became lost trying to retrieve it for her, leading Sandy and Meltan to pursue it.Team Rocket tried to capture them, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Shaymin was ultimately able to retrieve Mallow's hair ornament and return it to her.

InBattle Royal 151!, Shaymin was used by Mallow in theBattle Royal preliminary round of theManalo Conference, despite officially being a wild Pokémon. It defeated aStaryu,Herdier, andCorsola with Sandy's help. Shaymin was later among the 16 Pokémon still standing at the end, allowing Mallow to progress to the next round.

InThe Road to the Semifinals!, afterLana's Primarina waspoisoned in its battle withGuzma'sGolisopod, Mallow had Shaymin heal it withAromatherapy.

InThank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!, Mallow's brotherUlu returned home and brought with him someGracidea flowers. Shaymin touched them and turned into its Sky Forme. Heading outside, Shaymin saw other Shaymin and shared a heartfelt goodbye with Mallow before flying away with them.

Personality and characteristics

During its time withMallow andTsareena, Shaymin grew close to them. This was seen inDrawn with the Wind!, when her headband was blown away in the wind, Shaymin chased after it to retrieve it. Shaymin is a compassionate Pokémon, being naturally drawn to feelings of thankfulness. It appears to be meek and adverse to fighting, as seen inDrawn with the Wind!, where it cowered behindSandy andAsh's Meltan when confronted byTeam Rocket. At the same time, its compassion leads it to risk itself in order to help others, as seen in the beginning of the episode, where it shoved Sandy out of the way of oncoming traffic, and later, when it cured Sandy ofpoison. Mallow surmises this might be in part due to Tsareena's influence.

Despite still being a wild Pokémon, Shaymin quickly became loyal to Mallow and often took the role of her unofficial second Pokémon, helping out with her restaurant work and following her commands in Tsareena's absence, such as inKeeping Your Eyes On The Ball!, where it helped Mallow in her round of Pokémon Golf; and inThis Magik Moment!, where it portrayed her assistant Pokémon when she had a starring role inThirst Three. It will also use moves at Mallow's command, even posing as her battler Pokémon in the Manalo Conference.

It has a playful personality; inA Grand Debut!, it andSnowy ran to the sea and then back whenever waves would come in. Due to its playfulness, despite only meeting Mallow the previous day, Shaymin seems to be a fairly outgoing and extroverted Pokémon.

In its Land Forme, Shaymin is not very agile, often needing assistance from Sandy to climb objects such as barrels or boxes.

The shape of Shaymin's eyes in its Sky Forme is somewhat different from others of the same species, being more reminiscent of the eyes of Mallow's mother.
