Mable (Japanese:モミジMomiji) is a recurring character found inPokémon X and Y and their sequel,Pokémon Legends: Z-A. In X and Y, she is one ofTeam Flare's fivescientists. She is the only one of the five to reappear in Legends: Z-A, where she is theacting director of thePokémon Research Lab inLumiose City, conducting research on the Pokémon found in the Wild Zones of Lumiose City and their growing numbers.[1]
In X and Y, she is noted to be investigating different types of energy, with Legends: Z-A making it clear that she was specifically researching Pokémon life energy.[2]
In the core series games
Pokémon X and Y
Mable is one of fiveTeam Flare scientists that are the driving force behind the team, being distinguishable with her blue hair, blue lipstick, and her prominent visor. She is first seen in theFrost Cavern agitating anAbomasnow with twoTeam Flare Grunts. WithTrevor helping theplayer in defeating the Grunts, the player then defeats Mable and forces her to retreat.
She is met again atLysandre Labs, preparing for Team Flare's plan to use theultimate weapon. Upon being defeated again, she hands the player theElevator Key required to access the lower floors of the facility.

By helping complete her research requests, the player can earnTMs and other rewards.
Base game
After the events of Pokémon X and Y, Mable was taken into custody along with the rest of Team Flare. However, she was offered a plea deal and appointed as the acting director of thePokémon Research Lab so the government can keep a close eye on her, effectively replacingProfessor Sycamore following his resignation as the previous director some time before the events of Legends: Z-A. Mable also mentions that she is not allowed to leaveLumiose City or travel freely within it. Her dialogue while giving the player their Kanto First Partner Pokémon also implies she was given some instruction by Professor Sycamore. At the start of the game, due to the sudden increase in Pokémon since the beginning of the urban redevelopment plan, she is researching the habits of these new Pokémon and the reason for their sudden surge in population. She seeks theplayer's help in her investigation to offset her large workload by filling in theLumiose Pokédex and Mega Evolution Pokédex.
Mable makes an important role later in the game. In attempts to uncover whoGris is so that theplayer can battle him in theZ-A Royale, they make their way to Mable's office after hearing connections toTeam Flare. Mable reaffirms the suspicions, Gris, who's real name isGrisham was a former member of Team Flare, raised as a part of a "new generation" for the organization. She initially tries to deflect the question, but at the players insistence she eventually provides information on the man, leadingTeam MZ to theTeam Flare Nouveau truck atCentrico Plaza.
In the post game, Mable also provides a supporting role. Upon completingMission 38:The Future of Lumiose City and returning toHotel Z, the player learns about "the one who gives" and "the one who takes" fromL, the former head of Team Flare. To gather some clues, they pay a visit to Mable, who is yelling about the occurrence of more Wild Zones. Upon asking, Mable provides information on Lysandre's previous goals with Team Flare. A Pokémon who gives life:Xerneas and a Pokémon who takes it:Yveltal. Upon heavy research, the intense amounts ofMega Power has caused wild Pokémon to travel closer and closer toLumiose City, including theLegendary Pokémon ofKalos. After being tasked to take down threealpha Pokémon in the various Wild Zones, she tasks the player in stopping the two legendary Pokémon by catching them, as they could pose a threat to the people living in the city. As the player takes on these missions, Mable provides historical context with Xerneas and Yveltal and Team Flare, claiming that they had taken out numerous of their own Grunts. She then thanks the player for their help in calming Xerneas, stating that at least now it felt like all her research for Team Flare hadn't been for nothing.
Mega Dimension
Like many of the characters, Mable reappears during the events of the Mega Dimension DLC. Her first appearance is afterTeam MZ makes it out ofHyperspace Lumiose for the first time, appearing viaHolo Caster excited about the discoveries in Lumiose. She then provides theplayer with new research tasks and a new Pokédex, theHyperspace Pokédex. This extra research may go into base game rewards.
While the player may visit her during the main story of the DLC, she only makes a few minimal appearances, notably getting transported to hyperspace along with the rest of the cast, whereupon she comments on how she would prefer not to lose her own life when sent into hyperspace despite her curiosity towards it. She eventually takes a larger role in the DLC's post game, assistingCorbeau and theRust Syndicate in research of hyperspace once the player has defeated bothKyogre andGroudon, explaining howDarkrai's nightmare-related powers mixed with theMega Power leaking from the remains ofAnge, resulting in the existence of hyperspace Lumiose. Mable further explains that this resulted in a manifestations created by a subconscious of dreams and wishes, having both Pokémon and appear from within. Corbeau dismissively thanks Mable for her explanation, asking her whatAnsha could do to summonRayquaza. Mable proceeds with an overtly scientific answer that Ansha would have to "wish really hard". After a squabble she disappears from the room, with hopes that Ansha may succeed.
Side missions
Mable appears in threeside missions: side mission 22:A Call from Mable, side mission EX2:Project M, and side mission 194:Volcanion unleashed!.
In "A Call from Mable", Mable will request for the player to come to her office at the Research Lab. Upon entry, she will aggressively yell at her computer about the existence of Wild Zones, like she has prior. On behalf of the previous director, she then asks of the player to make a choice between three Pokémon,Bulbasaur,Charmander orSquirtle, just like Professor Sycamore had during the events of X and Y.
In "Project M", the player will reach down into the basement ofLysandre Labs holding bothMewtwonite X andMewtwonite Y stones, awakeningMewtwo. This alerts Mable, forgetting that Mewtwo was found there in the first place, and that Mewtwo must be caught at all costs. Upon success, Mable appears using her Holo Caster. The five Team Flare scientists were originally tasked in catching Mewtwo, the same one found in theUnknown Dungeon. As it had the capabilities toMega Evolve, they had hoped that it could be used in case their plans with eitherXerneas andYveltal have gone awry. Mewtwo was eventually forgotten about, and was not needed, being left in the Lysandre Labs.
In "Volcanion Unleashed", Mable will request the player's help with a hacked Poké Ball containing the Mythical Pokémon Volcanion, admitting Team Flare previously researched Poké Ball hacking and that she found it distasteful, then stating that she had to use drastic measures to free Volcanion that have almost certainly angered it. She then calls inYvon, from Lumiose press, who had used her sources to do some research on Volcanion. After the player calms and catches Volcanion, she will again thank them and admit she somewhat sympathizes with the Pokémon, as they both lost their freedom as a result of Team Flare's misdeeds.

Pokémon the Series
History
In the past, Mable, alongsideLysandre and the otherTeam Flare Scientists, would help those in need, until Lysandre became disillusioned with thehuman race and sought to restart the world.
Mable debuted inFrom A to Z!. She was first seen leading a group ofTeam Flare Grunts inTerminus Cave, where they attempted to capture50%Zygarde. However, all of their Pokémon's combined attacks didn't even phase theLegendary Pokémon, which usedLand's Wrath on thevillainous team members before disappearing. Mable was later seen informing Lysandre andXerosic of the failure of her mission.
Mable briefly appeared inMeeting at Terminus Cave! in a video call with Xerosic, where she andAliana were ordered to head toZ2 after Team Flare discovered its location thanks to their sensors.

InAn Explosive Operation!, she, Aliana, and several Team Flare Grunts were trying to capture Z2. She managed to hit Z2 with a beam from her specialized gun, preventing Z2 from camouflaging itself. When she and Aliana ordered their Pokémon,Weavile andDruddigon, to attack Z2, it transformed into its10% Forme and used its powerful attacks to defeat Team Flare and managed to escape. She and Aliana caught up to it, only to faceTeam Rocket, who wanted Z2 for themselves. Due to Team Rocket's intervention, Z2 managed to escape once again. Team Flare, however, quickly found them and a battle between both teams took place. After a prolonged struggle, Team Flare emerged victorious and managed to corner Z2. This, however, triggered Z2 to transform to its 50% Forme and it easily blew Mable and the others back. As Z2 was about to finish them off,Alain and hisCharizard interfered and battled Z2 to buy her and Aliana time. While Z2 was battling, she and Aliana surprised it by shooting it with their laser guns, finally bringing it down and captured it, completing their mission.
During Team Flare's attack onLumiose City, Mable had been ordered to stay atLysandre Labs. InComing Apart at the Dreams!, she and Celosia saw a helicopter containingSerena,Mairin,Professor Sycamore, and Team Rocket nearing Lysandre Labs through their security cameras. Inthe following episode, Mable tried taking down the helicopter with her Weavile, but she was attacked bySteven and hisMetagross. She and several Team Flare Grunts then faced Steven in battle, but were presumably defeated. InRocking Kalos Defenses!, Mable joined Celosia in her battle against Team Rocket. However, the two Scientists were quickly defeated and subdued.

Mable debuted inX-actly What They Wanted. She,Aliana, and a group ofTeam Flare Grunts traveled toVaniville Town to stealX'sMega Ring. While protecting herTrainer from the two scientists, X'sKanga was injured. This angered Kanga's baby, Li'l Kanga, who reacted to the Mega Ring andMega Evolved into Mega Kangaskhan and easily drove the villains off.
InInn-teresting Developments, X's friends stayed at anAquacorde Town inn while he slept in the tent onY'sRhyhorn's back. The inn was a trap designed to keep Y and the others inside while Mable and Aliana tried to steal Li'l Kanga when X wasn't looking. Y broke out and informed X of the situation, but when he tried to Mega Evolve Li'l Kanga again, it failed. With no other options, X and Y teamed up withChespin andFroakie to defeat the scientists. X had Chespin pin Mable and Aliana to a tree withPin Missile, preventing them from chasing the Vaniville children as they fled to a nearby forest.
InThe Aegislash Agenda, Mable and Aliana met withBryony andXerosic at theTeam Flare Secret HQ. They were informed that their repeat failures have led toCelosia taking over their duties.
InGyarados Changes, Mable and the other female scientists witnessed X trying to break into the Secret HQ. Noting Celosia hadn't slept since she broughtXerneas back to base, Mable and Aliana offered to stop X in her place, only for Bryony to tell them to return to their stations. Later, after theultimate weapon was stopped by X and his friends, Mable and Aliana helped Bryony up after she was defeated by Y and her newly caught Xerxer.
InCharizard Transforms, Mable and the other female scientists each intercepted Y and her friends to prevent them from reaching thePokémon Village. Mable pickedTierno as her opponent. Although Mable proved to be powerful, she was defeated when Tierno'sCorphish evolved intoCrawdaunt, giving it the power to take down Mable and herHoundoom at the same time.

Trivia
- Mable's design for Pokémon X and Y was illustrated byRafał Gosieniecki.[3]
- The visor Mable once wore during her time as one of Team Flare's scientists appears on her desk, next to her laptop.
- Some aspects of Mable's redesign for Legends: Z-A reference her previous design and past. She wears a clear visor over her eyes, a reference to her old visor, a blue tie around her neck, a callback to the blue tie she wore in her original design, and a white lab coat, which while typical of Pokémon Professors, is a reference to her former occupation as one of Team Flare's scientists.
