Lysandre (Japanese:フラダリFuladari[3]) is the boss ofTeam Flare, the main antagonist ofPokémon X and Y and a supporting character inPokémon Legends: Z-A. He is also a descendant of royalty, as well as a philanthropist and the owner ofLysandre Labs, the company that created theHolo Caster. He is the only character in the games to have theTrainer classTeam Flare Boss (Japanese:フレアだんボスFlare Gang Boss).
He originally sought to use theultimate weapon to reduce theworld population in order to return the planet to a more "beautiful", unspoiled state; what he implies to be a world without 'negative' or 'ugly' concepts, such as strife, struggle, war, or despair.[4]
After being saved from a near-death experience byZygarde, who had protected all living beings from the firing of the ultimate weapon in X and Y, Lysandre lost most of his memories and took on the monikerL (Japanese:FF), now working alongside Zygarde to restore its powers and saveLumiose City.
In the core series games
Appearance
Pokémon X and Y
Lysandre is a tall, well-built man with light skin and blue eyes. He haslong spiky orange hair and a beard.
He wears a red shirt with a cravat beneath his black jacket, which has a white fur collar. The jacket has a single-button cuffs, red side stripes and front flap pockets with red contrast trim. His black pants also have red side stripes and back welt pockets with red contrast trim. He wears black shoes and black fingerless gloves on his hands. On his left hand, he wears aMega Ring with the Team Flare insignia engraved on its sides, which he wears on his middle finger.
In theTeam Flare Secret HQ, Lysandre appears with a cybernetic apparatus called theLysandre Machine. The apparatus consists of a bronze, beetle-like gauntlet worn on his right arm, a gray mechanical backpack and three flying insect-like devices connected to the backpack by cables. He also wears an orange visor similar to those worn by Team Flare scientists.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
After Lysandre survived the activation of theultimate weapon in X and Y, he reappeared five years later. Due to his close exposure to the ultimate weapon, his lifespan was extended by three thousand years, similar toAZ's. His left eye was seemingly blinded, taking on an unnatural glow, which he only opened during battle. His hair turned white and became shorter, and his beard is white with orange streaks, reminiscent of his original hair color.
His outfit appears worn. He wears a black hooded jacket with a fur collar. On the jacket's elbows are red stitched patches, with the right patch shaped like a Y. Beneath the jacket, he wears a gray shirt with red buttons and under that, a red hoodie whose hood is stitched down the middle. His pants are gray with red stitched patches on the knees, with the left patch shaped like an X. He also wears red socks and black shoes. Lysandre still keeps his Mega Ring with him however, he no longer wears it on his hand.
History
Background
Lysandre is descended from Kalos royalty and old friends withProfessor Sycamore.[5] As the rich owner of a technology company, Lysandre was a philanthropist who often made donations to better the world.[6] One of the people he helped was a youngCorbeau, who would come to idolize Lysandre for his generosity. Lysandre formed an organization calledTeam Flare to serve as a place for people to come together and help one another, as seen whenGrisham andGriselle joined the organization in their youth. As time went on, Lysandre witnessed the ugliness of people and the world, and found that his charities and donations were not doing as much good as he had hoped. He gradually turned into a misanthrope who saw no hope for the future because of human "foolishness".[7] He would come to blame the expanding human population for this, deciding that conflict came from people being unable to share limited resources.[8] Lysandre is also one of the few who knows where the ultimate weapon was buried, thanks to his ancestor who buried it in the first place. He also transformed Team Flare from a peaceful organization into a villainous group dedicated to creating a more "beautiful and better" world. To accomplish this, he needed both the ultimate weapon, and financial support, which involved eliminating anyone who opposed his vision for the new world he intended to create.
Pokémon X and Y

The player first meets Lysandre inProfessor Sycamore's lab inLumiose City seeing potential in them, and then later in Café Soleil where he is seen talking toDiantha about her acting career. He discusses with her about the idea of eternal beauty, but she quickly dismisses the idea, claiming that she does not look for such a thing, much to Lysandre's annoyance. After this, he spots the player, where he speaks about his dream of a beautiful world.
Following this, Lysandre doesn't reappear until much later, after the player has defeatedClemont for their fifth Badge. This time, he speaks about theking of Kalos who nearly vaporized all life in the region 3,000 years ago by usage of a weapon. He also speaks about Xerneas'sX/Yveltal'sY role in the creation of theultimate weapon, as well as their role in the creation of life and destruction as a whole. After this, Lysandre will regularly communicate with the player through theHolo Caster, monitoring their progress, and constantly showing his vision for a beautiful world as well as asking them to reconsider his proposal and join him on his cause.
Lysandre then appears after the player has received their seventh Badge. At this point, it is revealed through his Holo Caster message that he is the leader ofTeam Flare, and that he plans to use the weapon which he spoke about earlier in order to eliminate anyone not part of Team Flare, surprising both the player and their neighbor. The player later confronts Lysandre in person at the lab beneath his café. He wishes to test the player's resolve, and is then battled and defeated. Admiring the player's resolve and strength, he instructs them that if they wish to stop him, he must get the elevator key from one of Team Flare's four scientists the player already met, while he retreats underground.
After the player obtains the Key and descends further into the lab, they meet with Lysandre who is speaking with a tall man behind bars known as AZ. Lysandre introduces AZ as someone who "shares the name of the previous King of Kalos", and the carrier the key of the ultimate weapon. After AZ tells the player the tragedy left by the ultimate weapon and asks them to stop the device from being used, Lysandre invites the player deeper underground if they wish to stop him. The player descends and meets Lysandre talking withXerosic. Lysandre then tells the player to battle Xerosic, and if they are successful against the scientist, then they will stop their scheme. After the player defeats Xerosic, he has them push one of two buttons, one of which activates the weapon. However, pushing the correct one unfortunately does not stop Xerosic from unleashing the weapon on Kalos. (If the player chooses the blue button he will activate the weapon by remote control, otherwise the player activates the weapon.)
Lysandre is later found again at the site of the ultimate weapon inGeosenge Town, where the player's rival questions him about his extreme measures to fix the world. He replies that those measures are the only possible solution because he thinks humans are inherently evil and greedy. He uses the analogy of them competing over theirMega Ring as an example that when something cannot be shared, people will fight for it, and some will be forced to live without it. As such, more tragedies are likely to happen, and, the only solution is to reduce the human population. When further questioned about Pokémon, he tearfully claims that Pokémon, while magnificent beings, are condemned to be used by humans as tools for war and theft. Therefore, he believes that Pokémon, for the greater good, are best annihilated.
He is battled again, as he simply seeks to stall for time against the player. The player defeats Lysandre once again, and he shows further admiration for the player's strength. He then challenges the player to travel deeper into theTeam Flare Secret HQ to stop the weapon, despite his belief that it is already too late, but multiple members of Team Flare are waiting in ambush on the lower floors. After defeating them, the player reaches Xerneas or Yveltal. The legendary Pokémon is then battled and caught by the player, seemingly disabling the weapon. Lysandre returns wearing the Lysandre Machine, which is intended to drain Xerneas'sX/Yveltal'sY energy back into the Ultimate Weapon, and he declares that he will take the legendary Pokémon back and complete his plan. Now wielding a Mega Ring of his own, he engages the player in a final battle.

After being defeated for the third and final time, Lysandre expresses his disgust towards the fact that his beautiful world will never be a reality. The player and their friends attempt to reason with him, saying that if people cooperate together, a better world is possible, and they use the Mega Evolution achieved by him as proof of the bond he has with his Pokémon. He, however, rejects the idea as mere naivety and then attempts to 'force immortality on the player, their friends, and himself'X/'kill everyone in the building'Y and fires the ultimate weapon using what little power still remains. Hearing this, the player and their friends quickly leave, after which the blast from the weapon destroys the building and seemingly buries Lysandre and the HQ under rubble, putting an end to Team Flare's threat.
Later on in the game, an NPC inSnowbelle City who is an old friend of Lysandre mentions that Lysandre had noble intentions and did his best to help people in need, but was eventually convinced of humanity's stupidity, along with his own limitations which resulted in him becoming a misanthrope.
As revealed inPokémon Legends: Z-A, Lysandre survived his supposed demise in Pokémon X and Y thanks toZygarde, but lost much of his memory in the process. Due to using the ultimate weapon, his body was altered in a similar way to AZ's, cursing him to live for three thousand years. As Zygarde had exhausted its power at the time, it tasked Lysandre to help it recover its strength in preparation for afuture threat to Kalos.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
Episode RR
Analternate universe version of Lysandre appears as a member ofTeam Rainbow Rocket and one of the second pair of bosses the player must face, along withCyrus. Like the othervillainous team leaders in Team Rainbow Rocket, this Lysandre was summoned from a world where his plans succeeded. However, as he explains to the player, a bright light consumed him when he fired theultimate weapon and was transported to the game's world. He has hisTeam Rainbow Rocket Grunts set up devices with red and blue buttons in his office withinTeam Rocket's Castle. Then, he subjects the player to the same choice the player in Kalos was subjected to, claiming that one button will activate the ultimate weapon and the other will open the path toGiovanni. However, no matter which button the player chooses, it will be the one that activates the weapon. Lysandre then tells the player that pushing the opposite button will prevent it from firing. However, in order to buy time for the weapon to fire, Lysandre battles the player, using XerneasUS/YveltalUM as part of his team. When he is defeated, he allows the player to press the other button, ostensibly shutting down the ultimate weapon, as well as unlocking one of the two seals needed to reach Giovanni. Lysandre then wonders if things would have been different in his world if he had met a Trainer like the player. He then rejects that line of thought, resolving that he must bring about his beautiful world. He is later sent back to his own world byColress off-screen.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Lysandre first meets the player under the pseudonym of "L". He warns the player about the coming crisis in Lumiose City and tells them that they must become a Trainer worthy of Zygarde's trust in order to stop it. Later on, he helps by gathering nearly all of Zygarde's Cells in order for it to assume its Complete Forme and defeat the rogue machine,Ange.
After the player's first reward match in the InfiniteZ-A Royale, L comes toHotel Z to speak with them about AZ, telling them about how the two had talked about the agony of being unable to die and about AZ's good and heinous deeds, including Ange. L surmises that Ange's influence resulted in more wild Pokémon gathering throughout Lumiose, wondering if it is right that people and Pokémon are kept at arm's length of each other with the city's holo-tech barriers. He wonders if people will find another way, stating that he looks forward to seeing what the people of Lumiose choose. L then explains that more of his memory returned following his conversation with the player in Lysandre Labs, having recalled the existence of Xerneas and Yveltal. He also informs them that since Ange was destroyed, Zygarde has not shown itself, likely due to it having exhausted its power and retreated somewhere to quietly recover. L requests the player to find Xerneas and Yveltal.
After the player catches Xerneas and Yveltal, L appears before the player outside Hotel Z. He explains that he knows that he tried to give too much to the world in the past, and because his good deeds saw no reward, he wallowed in despair and resentment and decided to take everything for himself instead. He explains how Zygarde seeks to correct excess and restore balance to the world, believing that to be the reason Zygarde rescued him. L then challenges the player to a battle. Reflecting on his mistakes, L expresses regret over having fired the ultimate weapon, and later escorts the player to the ruins ofPrism Tower so that they can battle and catch Zygarde. L entrusts Zygarde to the player and gives them theZygarde Cube to change its form. Declaring that he still wishes to create a more beautiful world, L nonetheless admits that his methods were flawed, and thus he sets off with the resolve to find a better way to realize his dreams.
Further information on Lysandre and Team Flare's original plan is disclosed during the player's visit to the ruins of Lysandre Labs. It is revealed that five years earlier, as Team Flare was preparing to execute Lysandre's agenda, he initially envisioned using both Ange and the ultimate weapon at the same time. However, because AZ's missingFloette was required to activate Ange, Lysandre could not do so, and he was forced to settle for using only the ultimate weapon.

History
Pre-series
As revealed inComing Apart at the Dreams!, Lysandre, much like in the games, once had a generous nature and would help those in need. However, after those he supported grew accustomed to his aid and turned greedy, he became disillusioned with the human race, and decided to "restart" the world by wiping out most of its population.
Mega Evolution Specials

Lysandre debuted inMega Evolution Special I. Though he was not identified as the caller at the time, he contactedAlain via theHolo Caster, directing him to where a new Mega Stone could be found. He was also seen observing the power of Alain's MegaCharizard X during its battle withSiebold's MegaBlastoise.

InMega Evolution Special II, Lysandre traveled toHoenn, intervened in Alain's battle withSteven, and introduced Alain and Steven properly to each other. It was revealed that in the past, he defeated Alain in a battle over anAmpharosite, then took Alain toLysandre Labs and recruited him to work in a project to harness the energy of Mega Evolution for peaceful purposes. Lysandre was also the one who awarded Alain his Mega Ring and Charizardite X, though he asked Alain not to tell Professor Sycamore of the research, fearing that people with bad intentions would bring harm to him in order to obtain it. Later, he traveled with Alain,Mairin, and Steven to a ruin, where they uncovered an ancientGiant Rock. However, his research on the Giant Rock accidentally summonedRayquaza, who destroyed the area. After the encounter with Rayquaza, Lysandre discovered a similar energy reading to the Giant Rock nearRustboro City, and asked Alain to go there and investigate. He also covertly ordered Alain to keep a close eye on Steven, for theHoenn LeagueChampion had precious information on Mega Evolution.
InMega Evolution Special III, Lysandre gave instructions to Alain and Steven. After Mega Rayquaza defeated bothPrimalGroudon and PrimalKyogre, he had the Giant Rock, which had reappeared during the battle of the Legendary Pokémon, taken away with his submarine for further studies.
InMega Evolution Special IV, Lysandre observed Alain's battles against ten Mega Evolution Trainers while his scientists researched the Giant Rock. AfterChespie, Mairin'sChespin, who had interfered with the experiments performed on aZygarde Core, was hospitalized, Lysandre told the victorious Alain that he had to continue gather data on Mega Evolution if Chespie was to recover. He was also shown to be close to Malva, who served as Alain's final opponent.
Pokémon the Series: XY
Lysandre has a major antagonistic role inPokémon the Series: XYZ, first making appearances inFrom A to Z! andMeeting at Terminus Cave!, where he was studyingSquishy alongsideXerosic.
InA Meeting of Two Journeys!, Lysandre was contacted by Alain via the Holo Caster, who wanted to know if Mairin's Chespie's condition had improved or not. Later, he reappeared inthe next episode, overseeing the operation to captureZ2 alongside Xerosic. At the end of the episode, he received Z2.
Lysandre reappeared inChampioning a Research Battle! andA Full-Strength Battle Surprise!, where he received mission reports from Xerosic.
InKalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!, Lysandre was talking to a man inside a building at theLumiose Conference. He soon got a call on a Holo Caster that anAdmin was holding, from Xerosic, who was in the front seat of a truck that was just outside theLumiose Gym. Later on at night, he metAsh for the first time and discussed the capability ofAsh's Greninja to take on its different form in battle. After his conversation with him, he was shown with an annoyed expression, before turning towards the Lumiose Gym and smirked. Lysandre later talked to Mairin after she ran up to him and he put on a happy expression. The next day, Lysandre was seated in a private viewing box inside the Lumiose Conference's stadium with a glass window, along with Mairin and the same Admin, and they all watched as Ash and Alain each walked towards their respective sides of the battlefield in the Lumiose Conference's stadium, for the final round of the Conference.

InFinals Not for the Faint-Hearted! andDown to the Fiery Finish!, Lysandre watched Ash and Alain's battle in the finals of the Lumiose Conference. Towards the end of the latter episode, his true egotistical, narcissistic nature is revealed as he uses the power of Z2 to bring the whole of Kalos into his control, taking over Lumiose City and subsequently the Lumiose Conference, which had just been concluded.
InA Towering Takeover!, Lysandre revealed himself as the leader of Team Flare to a captured Ash. He also televised a message to the citizens of Kalos about his plan for creating a new, beautiful world for Team Flare.
InComing Apart at the Dreams!, Lysandre explained his motivations and attempted to control Ash and Greninja the same way he did with Zygarde, so that Ash could become the guide of the new world. Ash, however, defied Lysandre and used theBond Phenomenon to break free. Following this turn of events, Lysandre equipped his machine and started a fight with Ash and the defecting Alain using his Pyroar and his Shiny Mega Gyarados. Pyroar was defeated through a joint attack byNoivern,Hawlucha, andPikachu.
InThe Right Hero for the Right Job!, Lysandre defeated the majority of Ash's team. He was surprised when Malva appeared to help Alain and Ash, but nonetheless remained confident even after Clemont and Bonnie freed the two Zygarde under his control.
InRocking Kalos Defenses!, Lysandre was finally beaten by Ash and Alain. Refusing to surrender, Lysandre seemingly killed himself by jumping off the tower. It was afterwards revealed that Lysandre had planned for the Giant Rock to transform into a copy of Zygarde, which would engulf theAnistar City Sundial and release enough energy to wipe out all life on the planet.
He made one final appearance inForming a More Perfect Union!. After the Giant Rock was temporarily stopped by Ash, Alain, Steven, Malva,Diantha, and all of the KalosGym Leaders andChespie was freed from it's control, Lysandre appears and revives the Giant Rock himself using a control device, announcing he still intends to destroy the world even if it means he has to die too. He lost control of the Rock after the device was destroyed by Ash and Alain, and was defeated entirely by Squishy and Z2 after they transformed into Zygarde Complete Forme and destroyed the Giant Rock. The explosion from Zygarde'sCore Enforcer engulfs Lysandre, leaving his final fate unclear.

X & Y arc
Lysandre debuted inThey Have a Flare for a Li'l Kanga-Napping. He was first seen inProfessor Sycamore's lab, watching a video of the battle betweenXerneas andYveltal inVaniville Town. He then asked for a copy of the footage for further study.
InWhat Does Charmander Do When It Dozes, Professor Sycamore sentTrevor and his friends toLysandre Café to get repairs for Trevor'sHolo Caster. The group was introduced to Lysandre, but Trevor became suspicious of the man after seeing his silhouette in a photo taken during the Vaniville incident. Noting Trevor's strange behavior, Lysandre asked to see the photo, even using his Pokémon to surround the group when Trevor refused.Diantha arrived and used herMegaGardevoir to defend Trevor's group. Lysandre backed off and left to answer a call fromXerosic, who had discovered the location of Xerneas's tree form.
InQuilladin Stands, Lysandre returned to theTeam Flare Secret HQ after Xerneas's tree form had been successfully transported. He received the Lysandre Machine, whichClemont was forced to build, and a Mega Ring, which had itsKey Stone stolen fromKorrina. Lysandre and Xerosic began draining Xerneas of its life energy to fuel theultimate weapon.X later broke into the building to put an end toTeam Flare's ambitions. He found the ultimate weapon's control room and confronted Lysandre, who used his Mega Ring to Mega Evolve hisGyarados. During their battle, X had hisÉlec use itsLightning Rod to pull electricity from the ultimate weapon's absorber into its tail, draining the machine of its power. This allowed Xerneas to awaken from its slumber and revert back to normal.
InFlabébé Blooms, Trevor,Tierno,Shauna,Clemont,Emma, andAZ arrived at the control room, where they found X had already been defeated. Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna tried removing the ultimate weapon's key but were unable to pull it out in time before it fired. To Lysandre's frustration, the combined efforts of X and his friends successfully weakened the ultimate weapon, preventing it from taking any innocent lives. AZ stayed behind to allow Xerneas to escape back to the surface with X and the others. When Malva attempted to confront X's group with Yveltal, Lysandre ordered a ceasefire due to it and Xerneas being evenly matched. Xerneas confirmed this and retreated, taking X and the others with it.
InPinsir Glares, Team Flare was revealed to have blamed the destruction caused by the ultimate weapon on X's friends and the Gym Leaders. They moved operations to thePokémon Village to keep a low profile. When Xerosic later discovered the stones liningRoute 10 are an older form of the absorber, Team Flare began using them to drain the life energy of the Pokémon living at the village. These actions earned Team Flare the anger ofMewtwo, who protected the Pokémon Village. InYveltal Steals, X andBlue found Lysandre in battle with Mewtwo at the village. Hoping to have Mewtwo weakened enough for capture, Lysandre tried to trick it into attacking X and Blue, only forBlaine to arrive and Mega Evolve Mewtwo into its Y form.
InMewtwo Angered, Lysandre summonedEssentia and used a device to control her like a puppet. By talking into the device, Essentia would repeat Lysandre's words, allowing him to command theZygarde she had caught earlier. While Blaine and Mewtwo kept Zygarde still, X defeated Essentia, uncovering her true identity as his friend Emma. With some words of encouragement from X andCassius, Emma betrayed Lysandre, but was attacked by his Gyarados before she could command Zygarde. Lysandre took Zygarde'sPoké Ball, only forY to arrive and take his Mega Ring. Although he was angered by this, Lysandre made an announcement to the entire Kalos region, informing the public of Team Flare's plan to destroy everything with the ultimate weapon. By borrowing Key Stones from his allies, X was able to activate Mega Evolution for his entire team at once.
InXerneas Gives, Lysandre used Zygarde to battle X's Mega-Evolved team. As the battle went on, X's friends noticed Zygarde's body was breaking apart due to Xerneas and Yveltal reverting to their tree and cocoon forms. Once they fully reverted, X had his team launch one final attack, fully separating Zygarde. Malva attempted to save Lysandre from falling, only for both to land onto the rubble below. Heavily injured, Lysandre weakly asked Malva why the ultimate weapon had not yet been fired. Afterward, Blaine revealed Lysandre was alive, but had sustained severe injuries to his spinal cord.
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc
Lysandre reappeared in a flashback as a silhouette when Sina and Dexio were explaining Zygarde's presence in Alola.

Zygarde, also known as Kalos's "Overseer" (Japanese:監視者Watcher), was captured by Essentia inAnistar City. At the Pokémon Village, Lysandre controlled Essentia so that he may use Zygarde to battle against X,Blue, and Blaine. After Emma was freed from Lysandre's control, Lysandre had Gyarados attack Emma so that he may take Zygarde's Poké Ball, giving him full control over it. OnceXerxer andYveltal reverted to their dormant forms, Zygarde had no reason to stay, so its body began breaking apart. X's Mega-Evolved team used a combined attack to fully break apart Zygarde, leading to Lysandre's defeat.

Trivia

- BothParfum Palace and theLumiose Museum contain a painting of the king who built the palace. It's revealed inPokémon Legends: Z-A that the aforementioned king was suspected to be a descendant ofAZ's younger brother, and by extension, an ancestor of Lysandre.
- Additionally, the Lysandre Machine bears a striking resemblance to the bug-shaped accessory worn by the king.
- Lysandre shares three Pokémon withCyrus, another leader of avillainous team:Murkrow,Honchkrow, andGyarados. Their goals are also similar; both involve trying to wipe out everyone for some purpose and usingLegendary Pokémon to achieve it.
- InPokémon the Series, the Lysandre Machine's functions are different: the "bugs" attached to the backpack piece are able to shoot beams of Mega Evolution energy, while the gauntlet is used to control theGiant Rock. Additionally, the pieces of the suit are capable of flight and can carry Lysandre into the air while he is wearing them.
- Lysandre's Gyarados knowsIron Head andOutrage, which it cannot learn inPokémon X and Y. The only way for Gyarados to know these moves in Pokémon X and Y is throughMove Tutors inPlatinum,HeartGold and SoulSilver andBlack 2 and White 2 before being transferred throughPokémon Bank, or through a Move Tutor inPokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the latter of which wasn't available at the time of X and Y's release.
- The background story of Lysandre told by an NPC in Snowbelle City is similar to the mangaNausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, where a king, who wants to save humanity and wanting peace for his peasants, eventually realizes their stupidity and grows to hate them, eventually becoming a tyrant.
- Lysandre's hairstyle was stylized to somewhat resemble amalePyroar's mane, one of his Pokémon.
- Lysandre is the first villainous team leader to debut in a special episode of theanimated series, and also the first to have aShiny Pokémon.
- InPokémon the Series, Lysandre is not Professor Sycamore's former pupil. Instead, the two only meet for the first time during the events of theXY series special,Mega Evolution Special IV.
- When Lysandre is defeated for the last time in X and Y, theplayer performs a unique victory pose.
- Lysandre's visor can be seen on his desk inTeam Rocket's Castle, though he does not wear it at any point as a member ofTeam Rainbow Rocket.
- Lysandre is the first villainous team leader in thecore series who never wears his team's insignia on his clothing.
- He is also the only member of Team Flare who does not regularly wear any sort of eyewear, however he does wear a visor when using the Lysandre Machine.
- Lysandre is the first villainous team leader inPokémon the Series whomAsh defeated in a battle.
- He was also the first villainous team leader in the animated series sinceGiovanni to be shown to use Pokémon of his own, instead of just controlling one or more Legendary Pokémon.

- ↑Lysandre is the boss of Team Flare, the villainous organization that appeared inPokémon X andPokémon Y. He is, by nature, a man of deep sympathies—but has been driven to despair by watching humans fighting and struggling against one another, and he comes to believe that the only way for people to live in beauty, without strife or struggle, is by reducing the number of people living in the world. He restored the ultimate weapon, which had been sealed away 3000 years earlier, and then, using the power of the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas or Yveltal, he attempted to eradicate life.
- ↑Professor Sycamore:"Actually, Lysandre himself is of royal ancestry... He truly is a chosen one." (Pokémon X and Y)
- ↑Professor Sycamore:"Lysandre is a great man. He supports Trainers and Pokémon research with some of the profit from the Holo Caster." (Pokémon X and Y)
- ↑Lysandre:I tried to save people--and the world--with the profit from this lab. But my efforts had no effect... The world was just too vast...and too full of fools that I couldn't save through my hard work alone." (Pokémon X and Y)
- ↑Lysandre:"When there is only one of something, it can't be shared. When something can't be shared, it will be fought over. And when something is fought over, some must survive without it. The only way to create a world where people live in beauty, a world without conflict or theft, is to reduce the number of living things." (Pokémon X and Y)
