Lucas (Japanese:コウキKouki) is the maleplayer character ofPokémon Diamond, Pearl, andPlatinum and theirGeneration VIII remakesBrilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. His female counterpart isDawn.

As the protagonist
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Lucas lives inTwinleaf Town with his mother. Lucas andBarry both see a television program about ared Gyarados, so the two head to the nearbyLake Verity in search of a similar Pokémon. As the enter the lake area, Professor Rowan and his assistantDawn are leaving, but have inadvertently left a briefcase behind. Lucas and Barry wander into the tall grass, but are suddenly attacked by wildStarly; as a last resort, they each use one of the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. The two take their Pokémon to Sandgem Town to return them to Professor Rowan, but Rowan decides to let the two keep their Pokémon, and also gives them each aPokédex.
Lucas goes on to gather the eightGym Badges ofSinnoh, defeatTeam Galactic, and conquer thePokémon League. He has to stopTeam Galactic from trying to use eitherDialgaDBD orPalkiaPSP to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.
Pokémon Platinum
Lucas lives inTwinleaf Town with his mother. Lucas andBarry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head toSandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon onRoute 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town toSandgem Town through thetall grass without any Pokémon of their own.
Lucas goes on to gather the eightGym Badges ofSinnoh, defeatTeam Galactic, and conquer thePokémon League. He has to go to theDistortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.
Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2
In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced byCynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.
As a non-playable character
If the player chooses Dawn, Lucas appears in the game as an NPC. He serves asProfessor Rowan's assistant. He lives inSandgem Town with his little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. He received hisfirst partner Pokémon before the player, having either aTurtwig,Chimchar orPiplup—the Pokémon he has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

Lucas may appear in DS Battle multiplayer if a Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver cartridge containing a game where the player character is male is connected to the Wii console. He can compete in both free fights and tournaments in a Colosseum.

- In the early development ofPokémon Diamond and Pearl, Lucas was originally going to have a father, which is further evidenced by script files leftover in their remakes,Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.[3]
- The majority of his Japanese default names are shared withRed fromPokémon FireRed and LeafGreen andEthan fromPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
- Lucas is 4'8" (142 cm) tall and weighs 83.8 lbs (38 kg). This was confirmed by checking the heights and weights of certain Pokémon in thePokédex. As such,Fearow,Sudowoodo,Yanma,Skuntank, andTogekiss are all the same weight as Lucas.
- One ofPokémon Trainer's palette swaps inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate has a color scheme based on Lucas's design in Diamond and Pearl.
