It was the first League Conference where a connection was made between the tournament itself and theChampion League, which was stated byLucian inThe Elite Meet and Greet!. AlthoughElite Four members andChampions had appeared before that, it was duringPokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl that conference winners were revealed to earn the right to challenge the Elite Four and Champion.

The scoreboard for the Full Battles

Each battle is fought on a themed battlefield selected at random before the battle starts.

Screening rounds

Although not shown, it is assumed that there are some sorts of screening rounds, as there were many Trainers seen registering for the competition inAn Old Family Blend!, but not seen in the actual battle round match-ups shown later in the episode, an example beingJeffrey.

Preliminary rounds

The Top 64 Trainers proceeded to the actual tournament. The first three rounds feature three-on-three matches. The first two rounds are held in the three small arenas of the venue, while the Top 16 matches are held in the main arena. The battles take place on various fields, including a Rock, Grass, Dirt, or Water field. When all threePokémon areunable to battle, the Trainer is knocked out of the tournament.

Final rounds

After shuffling the match-ups, the Top 8 Trainers then compete in the center arena in a series ofFull Battles. When either Trainer has lost their six Pokémon, they are knocked out of the tournament. Unlike in the previous League Conferences, no break or field change is had after a Trainer has lost three Pokémon.

Closing ceremonies

Although they aren't shown in full detail, the closing ceremonies include a fireworks show, the league torch being extinguished, andCharles Goodshow andCynthia presenting the winner with a trophy.

Trivia

  • It was shown multiple times that the use ofLegendary andMythical Pokémon is allowed in this tournament, which may be a reference to the change in rules in the2010 Video Game World Championships. However, the real-life championship's rules does not allow Mythical Pokémon, meaning thatTobias'sDarkrai would not be permitted.
  • This is the final conference to date thatCharles Goodshow appears in.
  • This is the only Pokémon League Conference in whichAsh places in the Top 4.
    • It is also the only Pokémon League Conference in which Ash uses Pokémon he caught in previousseries aside fromPikachu in addition to Pokémon he caught in the concurrent series.
  • There are seven named contestants, less than any other League Conference.
  • This is the first League Conference where Ash doesn't carry the torch.
  • InThe Gates of Warp!,Alternate World Dawn was shown to have a trophy for placing second in the Sinnoh League tournament, suggesting that there might be a trophy for second place.
  • Besides Pikachu, who traveled with him throughout Sinnoh, none of the Pokémon Ash caught in Kanto were shown being used in this League Conference.
