Manual activation
When used from theBag in awild encounter, it attempts to catch the wild Pokémon with the followingcatch rate modifiers:
- 1× if the player's Pokémon is less than or equal to the level of the wild Pokémon
- 2× if the player's Pokémon is at a higher level, but less than double, the level of the wild Pokémon
- 4× if the player's Pokémon is at a level at least two times, but less than four times, the level of the wild Pokémon
- 8× if the player's Pokémon is at a level at least four times that of the wild Pokémon
InPokémon Gold, Silver, andCrystal, due to a coding error, the wild Pokémon's remainingHP and possiblestatus conditions are ignored when calculating the catch rate; only the wild Pokémon's level is used for calculation if using a Level Ball.
InPokémon Legends: Z-A, if the player does not have a Pokémon out, the Level Ball will always have a catch rate modifier of 1×.
If used on anUltra Beast, the catch rate modifier is instead always set to 410/4096× (~0.1×).
The Level Ball cannot be used in situations in which Poké Balls cannot be used, such as in wild battles with two or more opponents currently present or against atrial Pokémon. If used in a Trainer battle, the opposing Trainer will bat the ball away, wasting the player’s turn (as well as the ball prior to Generation IV).
Held item
Fling fails if the user is holding a Level Ball.
InPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver only, Level Balls cannot be held. This is to prevent them being held by a Pokémontraded toPokémon Diamond, Pearl, andPlatinum, where the item does not exist.
