Kirlia is a bipedal, maiden-like humanoidPokémon that appears to be wearing a tutu. Most of its body is colored white, and there are three ruffles on each hip. Beneath the ruffles, it has skinny green legs with long, pointed feet. Its arms are also thin with two digits each. It has green hair that covers most of its face and reaches its shoulders on either side, resembling twoponytails. Large, red eyes are visible on either side of the hair that covers its face. On each side of its head is a flat, crimson horn that resembles a hairpin.
Kirlia's horns are used to amplify its psychokinetic power and distort the air around it. The distortion in the air causes scenery mirages and can cause a rip in dimensions. This ability also allows Kirlia to see into the future. It enjoys dancing on sunny mornings, and grows beautiful when exposed to aTrainer with positive emotions. Kirlia inhabitsurban areas. As mentioned inPokémon Sleep, Kirlia is known to dance while it sleeps.[1] The reason is due to Kirlia having a premonition of a fun future in its dreams.

It resembles a maiden in appearance, but it wields strange powers to project visions of paradise. I suspect the crimson ornaments on its head are the key to its abilities.

This Pokémon spins and dances when it's feeling happy on sunny mornings. If you see a Kirlia dancing while it sleeps, it may be having a premonition of a fun future in its dreams.
InDo I Hear a Ralts?, awild Kirlia and Gardevoir sentTeam Rocket flying when they corneredMax andSnorunt while they were caring for a Ralts and taking it to thePokémon Center. However, Kirlia and Gardevoir thought Max was also trying to steal Ralts. When Ralts blocked Kirlia and Gardevoir'sPsychic, the two Pokémon calmed down and left. Later, Kirlia and Gardevoir sentJames blasting off, as Ralts had already launchedJessie andMeowth away for posing as Gardevoir and Kirlia, respectively.
In a flashback inMutiny in the Bounty!, a Kirlia was one ofJ's bounties. In the present day,Melodi owned another Kirlia. It was used to help Ash andhis friends find out where J andher minions will strike next, after they stole Meowth,Ash's Pikachu, and Melodi's Gardevoir.
Kirlia, the Emotion Pokémon. Kirlia uses the horns on its head to amplify its psychic powers, and when this occurs, reality becomes warped, and future events can be seen.
InMetagross Investigates,Sapphire is revealed to have obtained a male Kirlia, nicknamed Kirly. In the same chapter, Kirly evolved intoGallade when Sapphire accidentally unearthed aDawn Stone and kicked it towards him.
Kirlia seems to be based on a young, feminineballet dancer and the concept ofempathy. The white frills surrounding its body resemble atutu, and its thin, pointed legs make it appear as if it is standingen pointe and wearing greentights. Its hair is styled intopigtails, with its horns positioned likebarettes orscrunchies. The red horns also resemble two halves of aheart, which may relate to its ability to sense emotions.
Kirlia and its evolutionary line also bear a strong resemblance to themeadow elves, who were believed to possess magical powers and supernatural beauty. The wordelf inGermanic languages originally meant "white being," which may explain why they were often depicted wearing white tights. By the end of the medieval period, the wordelf was frequently supplanted by the French loanwordfairy, which may explain theirFairy typing starting fromGeneration VI.
Kirlia in particular appears to be inspired by the Swedishälvor, elves who lived in forests and were often depicted in paintings as young girls adorned withflower wreaths, dancing over meadows. This imagery parallels the horn-like ornaments on its head as well as its characteristic fondness for dancing.
Name origin
Kirlia may be derived fromKirlian photography (a special way of taking pictures that supposedly reveals psychic energy auras around subjects).
