AJuggler (Japanese:ジプシージャグラーGypsy Juggler in Generations I and II,ジャグラーJuggler in Generations III, IV, and VII and as the shortened name in Generation I) is a type ofPokémon Trainer that first debuted in theGeneration I games. They are depicted as slim young men in flashy costumes, jugglingPoké Balls.
They specialize in using spherical Pokémon likeVoltorb, as well asPsychic-type Pokémon, fitting with their class title and keeping with their circus theme, similar to theClown class. They occasionally exhibit the behavior of constantly switching out their Pokémon in battle.
Oddly enough, among theTeam Rocket Grunts andTeam Rocket scientists inSilph Co. is Juggler Dalton, who attacks the player like any grunt, exclaiming that kids shouldn't be here. He battles the player with aKadabra and aMr. Mime. After the battle, he says that it's a long way to his boss, indirectly referring toGiovanni, which hints that Dalton is associated withTeam Rocket (though he is clearly not a grunt). He is also the only Team Rocket member not belonging to either the Team Rocket orScientist Trainer class.
InPokémon Stadium, a Juggler is one of the opponents in thePoké Cup and sticks to a comedic, unpredictable strategy in every encounter: his Pokémon almost always carry the moveMetronome, and if anything else, usuallyCounter, a sleep move andDream Eater combo, orPsywave. In the Ultra Ball difficulty of Round 2, his team knows nothing but Metronome.
InPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, a Juggler found by thePokémon Center inViolet City and another byPal Park inFuchsia City can tradeBerries in exchange forshards.
InLet's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Jugglers battled outside ofGyms will award threePoké Balls along withprize money upon being defeated.

Trivia

- In Generation I, there aretwo identical Juggler classes in the game's code, at hex D5 and DD.
- Juggler is the only Trainer class not to retain its original Japanese title fromGeneration II inHeartGold and SoulSilver. This is likely because "Gypsy Juggler" could be considered offensive to people ofRomani descent.
- Juggler's Japanese name, Gypsy Juggler, may be a reference to a 1978 arcade game. The arcade game was mentioned inGame Freak magazine volume 1, albeit spelled incorrectly as "Gipsy Juggler".[1]
- InGeneration I, a Juggler from theFuchsia Gym had one line considered famous in fandom.
- JUGGLER: "Dropped my balls!"
- The same Juggler inFireRed and LeafGreen instead says "You're more skilled than I thought!"
- InPokémon Stadium, a Juggler in the Fuchsia Gym has a Slowbro that knowsMetronome, even thoughit cannot legitimately learn the move.
