TheIsle of Armor (Japanese:ヨロイArmor Island) is a large island in theGalarregion featured inThe Isle of Armorexpansion. It is located off the east coast of mainland Galar, close toSpikemuth.

The Isle was once uninhabited and nameless, until it was bought and named byMustard, who established hisMaster Dojo there to teachTrainers aboutPokémon battles. The island is also home to 110species of Pokémon not found on the mainland, which are documented in theIsle of Armor Pokédex.

Design concept

Main article:Pokémon world in relation to the real world → Galar

The Isle of Armor is based on theIsle of Man, a Britishcrown dependency.[1] Like Galar proper, the orientation of the Isle of Armor is rotated 180° compared to real-worldBritish Islands; thus, the landmass is located to the right of Galar.Honeycalm Island may be based on theCalf of Man, while some islets surrounding the Isle of Armor bear resemblance toChicken Rock, the Burroo (also known as 'the Drinking Dragon'), and other notable rock formations in theIrish Sea.

The plot of the Isle of Armor is in accordance with the theme of "strength", and the idea of aiming to be the greatest or the strongest. The presence of the oriental-themedMaster Dojo could be a reference to the popularity of martial arts, particularlyWing Chun andKarate, in real-life Britain in the 2010s.

The thematic color ofThe Isle of Armor matches theragwort, national flower of the Isle of Man, locally known ascushag inManx Gaelic.

An overview of the Isle of Armor

As with theWild Area on the mainland, the Isle of Armor is composed of many subareas.

Items

Main article:Wild Area → Items → Gifts from other players

Digging Ma and Digging Pa

Digging Ma is the mother of theDigging Duo. She has the appearance of a femaleWorker. When the player encounters her, she'll offer one piece ofArmorite Ore. In exchange for that piece, she can dig up more Armorite Ore until the player asks her to stop or until her shovel randomly breaks. If the player asks her to stop, she will reward all the pieces of Armorite Ore dug up, including the initial one, but if her shovel breaks, the player will not receive any of the Armorite Ore from that session; however, occasionally, after her shovel breaks, she may be able to dig up more Armorite Ore instead. After this exchange, Digging Ma will relocate to another area on the island.

The Digging Pa is the father of the Digging Duo, and he always appears in the Training Lowlands just outside Warm-Up Tunnel. In exchange for seven pieces of Armorite Ore, he will dig forWatts. Each time he digs, he will dig up between 800 and 8000 Watts. Similar to the Digging Duo, there is no risk in asking him to keep digging, as if he runs out of energy and finishes digging, the player will get all the Watts he dug up.

Sword & Shield arc

The Isle of Armor was first mentioned inOh My!! The Disappearance of Henry. Following the disappearance ofHenry and theRusted Sword andShield after the battle againstEternatus,Casey was able to figure out that one of the artifacts had wound up at the Isle of Armor, though she was unsure if Henry was there too or at theCrown Tundra.

InFlutter!! Tickets to a New Land, Casey andMarvin traveled to the Isle of Armor in order to look for Henry. Meanwhile, Henry was found from theSoothing Wetlands byAvery andKlara, who brought him to theMaster Dojo to be cured of the poison that was ailing him. After reuniting, Henry and Casey became unofficial apprentices at the dojo, withMustard entrusting Henry with aKubfu and telling him to train it while he and Casey simultaneously continued their search for the Rusted Sword and Shield. InCrackle!! Retrieve the Sword & Shield, Henry completed his training and succeeded in recovering the Rusted Shield, though in the process, an encounter withGalarianMoltres resulted inHop being transported to the Isle of Armor, while Henry wound up at the Crown Tundra.

InRumble!! The Darkest Day Returns, theDarkest Day started again. While the previous incident had not affected the Isle of Armor, this time, the cataclysm was widespread enough to also affect the island and cause Pokémon on it to startDynamaxing. Learning that Henry had managed to find the Rusted Sword at the Crown Tundra, Casey, Hop, and Marvin headed back to the mainland to reunite with him. While theFlying Taxi was out of service due to the cataclysm, the group was picked up byRaihan,Melony,Leon, andBea, while Mustard assured them that the island had strong enoughTrainers for the people of the Master Dojo to survive through the Darkest Day.
