Iris's Haxorus (Japanese:アイリスのオノノクスIris's Ononokus) was one of the twoPokémon acquired byIris prior to the start ofPokémon the Series: Black & White, and her second one overall. It is alsoIris's main Pokémon in thegames andmanga.

History
Pre-series
Haxorus, as an Axew, was the second Pokémon thatIris obtained, after herExcadrill. She obtained Axew from theelder of herhometown when he was just a few days old. She was tasked with journeying with Axew to help raise him into a great Haxorus. Before he evolved, he preferred being outside hisPoké Ball, traveling inside Iris's long hair.
Pokémon the Series: Black & White
Axew first appeared briefly inIn the Shadow of Zekrom! alongside Iris, where he watched the dark clouds caused byZekrom from the top of a tree. Axew was the first Pokémon thatAsh scanned with his newPokédex inEnter Iris and Axew!, though he was actually aiming it at Iris's hair and wondering why Axew looked nothing like what the Pokédex showed. Later, Axew and Pikachu got caught byTeam Rocket, but they were later freed with the help ofOshawott.
InTriple Leaders, Team Threats!,Cilan told Iris and Axew that they have perfect compatibility. He also added that Axew is a rather rare Pokémon. InDreams by the Yard Full!, it was revealed through theDream Mist that Axew wanted toevolve to hisfinal stage.
InThe Bloom Is on Axew!, it was shown that Axew had not had much experience in battling, crying when he was hit by weakenedBullet Seed andSolar Beam attacks fromCilan's Pansage; however, he was shown to be able to produce an extremely powerfulDragon Rage that could cause massive destruction, but was uncontrollable and had a tendency to explode in all directions rather than beam at a specific target as it is meant to. Ash and Cilan playfully referred to it as a "Dragon Sneeze", much to Iris's annoyance. A pun exists where, as Axew says his name while using "Dragon Sneeze," it sounds rather like "achoo". Later in the episode, Axew was trapped in the horns of a wildScolipede, and Iris and the others had to rescue him using their Pokémon.
InScraggy-Hatched to be Wild!, Axew seemed excited about Ash'sPokémon Egg being ready to hatch, so much so that he accidentally sent it rolling down a hill. After it hatched intoScraggy, Axew became afraid of him after seeing how aggressive he was with the other Pokémon. Even so, he kept his eye on Scraggy and was the first to notice that he ran off in the middle of the night. Axew assisted Iris in finding a plant that would help Scraggy recover after he wasparalyzed by a wildGalvantula. The next day, when Scraggy felt better, Axew battled him. Both Pokémon knocked each other out thanks to another failed Dragon Rage. The two had another battle inDancing With the Ducklett Trio!. However, he was stopped after Axew attempted, again, to use Dragon Rage.
InThe Dragon Master's Path!, he sent Team Rocket's ship down with an exploding Dragon Rage. He then rode away on Druddigon's head and called out to Iris, letting her know where he was. When fighting Team Rocket alongside Pikachu andEmmy'sDruddigon, Axew finally mastered Dragon Rage, sending out a stream of energy instead of exploding right on the spot, defeating Team Rocket.
InCottonee in Love!, Axew had another battle withAsh's Scraggy, but this time he won thanks to his mastered Dragon Rage.
InIris and Excadrill Against the Dragon Buster!, Axew battledGeorgia'sBeartic briefly, but was defeated after a collision ofIce Beam and Dragon Rage.
InMovie Time! Zorua in "The Legend of the Pokémon Knight!", Axew played the role of theDragon Master's strongest Pokémon. She used Axew againstAsh's Pikachu to bring out his inner strength. However, Pikachu defeated Axew with a powerfulThunderbolt/Electro Ball combination.
Iris used Axew in the semifinal round of theClub Battle inClub Battle Finale: A Hero's Outcome! againstLuke and hisGolett. Not knowing about Golett's immunity toNormal-type attacks, Iris ordered Axew to use Scratch, which was ineffective. Axew then got hit hard by Golett'sMega Punch. Managing to get up, Axew used Dragon Rage, but this attack was dodged byDouble Team. While still using Double Team, Golett usedGyro Ball, confusing Axew, and managed to hit him hard. Axew then tried Dragon Rage again, but this was countered by Golett'sShadow Ball. Golett then used Gyro Ball again. Unable to do anything Axew started running away. Eventually, Axew got exhausted, and as he was about to be hit by Gyro Ball, Axew learnedOutrage, knocking Golett back and finally defeating it.
InBattle For The Underground!, Axew was used to propel the train cart Ash and his friends were riding on to get away from Team Rocket, along with Tepig usingEmber, which soon becameFlamethrower, andRoggenrola usingFlash Cannon.
He battled with Scraggy once more inScraggy and the Demanding Gothita!; however, seeing as Scraggy had learnedHigh Jump Kick, they proved evenly matched again. After the battle, he and Scraggy went off to play until they ran into aGothita that took a liking to Scraggy. Gothita'sTrainer challenged Ash to a battle on the condition that if she won, he'd have to trade Scraggy away to her. Ash won the battle, but Axew still had a nightmare about losing his best friend the following night. He then awoke to find that Scraggy and Gothita had left. He pursued them and attempted to get Scraggy away from Gothita by hitting it with Dragon Rage. However, it ended up disturbing a wildGarbodor who attacked them untilSnivy showed up to protect them, and Katharine, Gothita's Trainer, used herDeerling to calm the Trash Heap Pokémon. Axew was happy to see Gothita storm away the next day after Snivy defeated it in battle.
InStopping the Rage of Legends! Part 1, Axew became friends with aGothorita owned byLewis, who expressed great interest in him. Axew admired Gothorita as it prayed atLandorus's shrine for it to rain onMilos Island, and later when Gothorita saved him and Iris from falling onto some sharp rocks. Later, Axew was able to hitThundurus withDragon Rage and would have been hit by hisThunder ifCilan's Stunfisk had not blocked the attack withMud Bomb. Understanding the dire situation, Axew encouraged Gothorita when it was asked by Lewis to plead withTornadus and Thundurus. InStopping the Rage of Legends! Part 2, Axew helped rescue theforces of nature fromTeam Rocket; he used Dragon Rage onDr. Zager's helicopter, joined by Ash's Pikachu,Ash's Roggenrola, Iris's Emolga, and Cilan's Pansage, to cause the force field prisons trapping the trio to break.
InAll for the Love of Meloetta!, Iris used Axew in a battle againstCynthia's Garchomp. Axew'sScratch andDragon Rage successfully hit Garchomp but seemed to do no damage. Garchomp then used herDragon Rush andDraco Meteor attacks to cause a lot of damage to Axew. At the last second, when it seemed like Axew was down, he got back up, knocking Garchomp down with his newly learnedGiga Impact and shocking everybody. Garchomp quickly recovered and was about to finish Axew off with aBrick Break but was called off byCynthia at the last second.
InA Village Homecoming!, Axew was reunited with the elder at the Village of Dragons, embracing her with open arms. She complimented his health and praised Iris for how he had been cared for. Later, whenShannon's newly evolvedHydreigon lost control of himself, Axew helped Excadrill corner the Brutal Pokémon after Emolga andDragonite chased him to shore. He kept Hydreigon distracted with Dragon Rage while Iris attempted to leap on him from behind to calm him down.
InWhat Lies Beyond Truth and Ideals!, Axew frantically used Scratch to free Iris and Cilan from the metal cuffsTeam Plasma had trapped them in. He later helped fight off the Pokémon controlled by Team Plasma.
InCilan and the Case of the Purrloin Witness!, Axew was used in the first round of theMarine Cup Tournament. He battledTeaque'sVanillite but was knocked out by a supereffectiveIce Beam.
InTeam Rocket's Shocking Recruit!, Axew was playing with Emolga when he was attacked by a wildGalvantula usingElectro Ball and sent rolling down a hill where he bumped his head on a large rock. Since Emolga had already gotten in to trouble for attackingOshawott andScraggy that morning, Iris scolded Emolga for attacking Axew, causing Emolga to become upset and fly away, worrying Axew. After being healed, Axew and the gang set off to find Emolga, only to find that she had allied herself withTeam Rocket. Under the shroud ofYamask'sHaze, Emolga pulled Axew away. Later, Emolga shared her plan to get back in Iris's good books with Axew, unaware thatMeowth was listening in. Axew acted as bait to lure in Pikachu for Emolga and called out toCharizard andDragonite to make them bring Ash and his friends to him. Pikachu was captured by Team Rocket, but Iris was able to understand from Axew that the earlier accident was not Emolga's fault. However, Team Rocket trapped Axew and Emolga in a glass cage along with an angryExploud. The Exploud attacked them both, but Emolga did her best to protect Axew from its attacks. Exploud picked Axew up and dropped him in its mouth, much to Iris's horror, though Axew was able to escape by using Dragon Rage. Eventually, Dragonite and Charizard were able to break the cage open, allowing Axew and Emolga to escape.
InBest Wishes Until We Meet Again!, Axew and Pikachu were caught by Team Rocket, while Ash, Iris, and Cilan were trapped inside the ship's cargo space. Eventually, he and Pikachu were freed, and together with Pikachu, Charizard, and Pansage, Axew blasted Team Rocket off. Axew later said farewell to Ash and Pikachu as he, Iris, and Cilan departed forJohto.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
During Iris's travels after parting ways with Ash, Axew eventually evolved all the way into a Haxorus, ultimately fullfilling his dream of doing so. Aslater revealed by Iris, Haxorus was the Pokémon responsible for winning the battle that earned her the title ofUnovaChampion.
InThrash of the Titans!, Haxorus was sent out againstAsh's Dracovish during Iris'sWorld Coronation Series battle against her former traveling companion at theOpelucid Gym. After Haxorus successfully defeated Dracovish, it went up againstAsh's Dragonite. During the match, Ash used Dragonite'sHurricane to redirect Haxorus'sDragon Pulse into the sky and reformed it intoDraco Meteor, which is then used to defeat Haxorus, giving Ash the victory.
InThe Fiery Road to Mastership!, Haxorus was Iris’s third Pokémon in herMasters Eight Tournament match against Cynthia. He first battled againstMilotic, breaking through its attacks with brute force and knocking it out. He then had a rematch against Garchomp, now facing her on an equal footing. After they had traded several blows, Cynthia decided toMega Evolve Garchomp. Due to this increase in strength, Garchomp defeated Haxorus, eliminating Iris from the tournament.
Personality and characteristics
As an Axew, he proved to be a friendly Pokémon, making quick friends withAsh's Pikachu inEnter Iris and Axew! and later with other Pokémon. He and Iris have a strong relationship, as seen inA Sandile Gusher of Change! after aSandile had caught him in his jaws, Iris tried everything to get him out. This was also seen inBWS02, when Iris kept trying to shake herGible, who had been wild at the time, off of Axew when he kept biting on his head, which happened twice.
Though lacking superior battle skills, Axew makes up for it with a kind personality, as mentioned by Cilan. If Iris feels sad, he will go off to collect fruit to cheer her up. Axew is also somewhat of a pacifist and often hides or panics when the other Pokémon who accompany him start to fight each other, as seen inEmolga and the New Volt Switch! when he was seen running around in circles whenOshawott,Tepig,Scraggy, andSwadloon started fighting over food. However, he has been shown to have some childish traits, such as inSaving Darmanitan From the Bell!, where he fought withPikachu when he thought Pikachu was the one who ate all the food.
Axew will often express concern for other Pokémon. InEmolga the Irresistible!, he was grateful when anEmolga stopped his apple from rolling down a hill and wanted to share some of it with her. When she left after being smothered byBianca, he was desperate to find her again. However, this could be because Axew has a little crush on Emolga, as confirmed byIris in the same episode.
Axew also seems to see Scraggy as a little brother since he hatched when Iris told him he was Scraggy's big brother. Since then, Axew always had kept a close eye on Scraggy to keep him out of trouble, and the two have become training partners, and best friends, most likely because they're the youngest. InScraggy and the Demanding Gothita!, he was horrified that he might never see him again if Scraggy was given toKatharine, even having a nightmare about it.
It is unknown whether he still holds on to these traits after hisEvolution, although he seems more serious. Evolution also made Haxorus much more powerful, strong enough to stand toe to toe with Champion-level opponents.

Haxorus first appeared as aFraxure inBig City Battles, whereIris was seen riding it inCastelia City. It mostly remainedoutside of its Poké Ball during Iris's future appearances.
InSchool of Hard Knocks, Fraxure briefly battled againstDrayden'sDruddigon at theTubeline Bridge, but lost.
InThe Tournament Continues, Iris used Fraxure in herPokémon League battle againstGray, managing to defeat hisCryogonal despite the type disadvantage. InOne Way or Another, Fraxure was used againstBlack'sBraviary,Brav, in Iris's next round battle. As Iris had estimated, Fraxure had gained enoughexperience to allow it to evolve into Haxorus in the middle of the battle. Both Pokémon wererecalled immediately afterward. Iris later sent Haxorus back out against Black'sCarracosta,Costa, planning to take advantage of Haxorus'sMold BreakerAbility to bypass Costa's own Ability,Solid Rock. However, Costa eventually managed to catch one of Haxorus's tusks in his jaws and defeat it with a close-rangeIce Beam, causing Iris to lose the match.

A Japanese event randomly distributed an Egg that contained an in-game representation of Iris's Axew,Ash's Pidove, orCilan's Pansage via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Like its animated series counterpart, this Axew knowsScratch andDragon Rage and ismale. It also, interestingly, always hasMold Breaker as its Ability. This event started on December 17, 2010, and ended on January 11, 2011. This Egg was also distributed at participating AmericanToys 'R' Us locations from April 27 to May 31, 2011.

The distribution was split into four one-week periods; each week, players could receive one of fourPokémon the Series: Black & White-themed Pokémon at random. Haxorus also appeared as an opponent in an event that recreated theMasters Eight Tournament that ran from October 27 to November 21, 2022. Upon beating Iris, the player can receive a Support Pokémon Ticket based on Haxorus, withIris's Dragonite as its tag partner.
