Hilda (Japanese:トウコTouko) is the femaleplayer character inPokémon Black and White. Her male counterpart isHilbert.

As the protagonist
Hilda is a 14-year-old girl who lives inNuvema Town, along with her childhood friendsCheren andBianca. If chosen as the player, she will receive afirst partner Pokémon and aPokédex fromProfessor Juniper. After setting off on herPokémon journey at the same time as Cheren and Bianca, Hilda will at some point be asked byFennel to do some sort of quest; in return for its completion, Hilda will receive aC-Gear.
As well as encountering and battling her childhood friends at various points during her journey, Hilda will also meet a young man known asN, who wishes to create separate worlds for humans and Pokémon. In order to achieve his goals, he and Hilda will battle several times during the course of the game. Hilda will also battleTeam Plasma at various stages of her journey. At the game's climax, Hilda is recognized as a hero byReshiramB/ZekromW.
As a non-playable character
If not chosen as the player, Hilda appears as the player's partner in theBattle Subway when choosing to ride the Multi-Train. Two of the following Pokémon are picked from the corresponding list, depending on what the player wants her to base her team on. If the player chooses "A balance between the two," Hilda's Pokémon are chosen from either list.

In Black 2 and White 2, the protagonist of Black and White was said to be searching for N in a faraway region and has not yet returned home. Her mom mistakes the player for her.

This is a list of all thePokémon used in the Multi Train and Super Multi Train battles. Each Pokémon has a non-HiddenAbility that, along withgender, is randomly selected. Her Diancie is capable ofMega Evolving. Hilda became a playable sync pair on September 30, 2019.
Hilda first appeared as an NPC during the eighteenth chapter of thePML Arc. She also made a notable appearance later in theVillain Arc.

She works for an advertisement company called theBW Agency, and she gets the idea to hireBlack upon seeing the bond the latter'sTepig had with a female of its species. In thiscanon, she is the founder of thePokémon Musical andPokéstar Studios.

Hilda was introduced as aSupporter card in thePokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the JapaneseWhite Flare expansion before debuting inthe English expansion of the same name, with artwork byyuu. Anultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator and aspecial illustration rare version with artwork byNaoki Saito were released in the same sets. This card lets the player search their deck for anEvolution Pokémon and anEnergy card, and put them into their hand.
Trivia
- Unused text inPokémon Black 2 and White 2 indicates that Hilda andHilbert were originally planned to be battled at thePokémon World Tournament.
- Hilda and Hilbert are the firstplayer characters in thecore seriesgames not to have pre-programmed names either by choice or in case one isn't specified.
- In the May 2010 volume ofCoroCoro Comics and the January 2011 volume of Nintendo Dream, it was stated that Hilda and Hilbert are older than previous player characters, but it is not said how much older they actually are.
- According to game scenario authorToshinobu Matsumiya, Hilda and Hilbert were initially visualized to be at the age of 16.[8]
Names
This character is namedHilda (Japanese:トウコTouko) in her NPC appearance in the Battle Subway. It is also her most commonly used name, being used in merchandising and thePokémon Masters EXspin-off game. Her Japanese name was spelled asTouko on the packaging ofKotobukiya ArtFX J Figure.
She was namedWhite (Japanese:ホワイトWhite) in certain pre-release material. English demos for Black and White refer to the character asWhitlea, while English screenshots refer to her asShiro. If a transferred Pokémon that has a trainer with aprohibited name comes from Black or Black 2, the Pokémon's OT will be set toKuro* (Japanese:ブラック.Black.), while Pokémon from White or White 2 will have their OT set toShiro* (Japanese:ホワイト.White.)
