Gym guide
TheGym guide is a title in thecore seriesPokémon games belonging to at least seven characters, each corresponding to a differentregion. In each case, the guide is usually found at the front of each PokémonGym, ready to offer tactical advice to noviceTrainers. He congratulates theplayer upon defeating theGym Leader, and offers more advice for the player'sjourney. He can occasionally be sarcastic.
Some Gym guides do not stay inside their gyms. TheCeladon Gym guide is never seen in his Gym, and instead appears at theRocket Game Corner, where he plays theslot machines. Similarly, theCianwood Gym guide is found in thecity'sPokémon Center instead of the Gym. ThePetalburg Gym guide will vanish after theplayer has defeatedNorman, and, inGeneration II only, theCinnabar Gym guide will arrive afterBlaine has been defeated.
In theKanto-based games, there is a guide for theIndigo Plateau as well as for each Gym.
Some games reveal the Gym guide's name:
- InUnova, he is given the nameClyde (Japanese:ガイドーGaidō) and if the player talks to him before challenging the Gym Leader of any Unova Gym, he will give aFresh Water. At theNimbasaB2W2,MistraltonB2W2,OpelucidB2W2,Aspertia,Striaton, andNacrene Gyms, he approaches the player and gives the water, rather than requiring the player to approach him to receive it.
- InAlola, he is given the nameJim Gyde (Japanese:GAIDOGAIDO). He only appears in theKantonian Gym, making him an unofficial Pokémon League staff member as it is an unofficial Gym.
- InGalar, he is given the nameDan (Japanese:ダンペイDanpei) and is a referee who reports the player's results to the Pokémon League HQ. Dan appears at the start of every Gym Mission to explain the player's objective, except inSpikemuth, where he is replaced by aTeam Yell Grunt.
