Gothitelle is a humanoidPokémon with a primarily black body. Its head is teardrop-shaped, with a white, bow-like fixture attached to the base of its tip. The black skin on Gothitelle's head opens onto its purple face with a zigzag pattern resembling bangs. Gothitelle has large, heavy-lidded eyes with blue irises and white pupils, as well as a small mouth with red lips. Four flat, black disks flank each side of its head. Gothitelle's body is split into four progressively-larger tiers, with its head and arms being attached to the smallest, uppermost tier and with a pair of stubby pink feet being under them. Its arms are thin, ending in small, purple hands with white disks at the wrists. Each tier of Gothitelle's body has a white, bow-like fixture on its front.
Gothitelle's immense psychic power can distort the space around it, showing visions of distant stars andpast events, but it dislikes conflict. It can predict the future from the placement and movement of stars and weeps when it discovers the lifespan of its Trainer. It has a detached nature due to seeing how all life will eventually end. A criminal that a Gothitelle had shown his fate to went missing that same day and was never seen again. The visions Gothitelle shares are said to be apparently ethereal and beautiful.
Evolution
Gothitelle evolves fromGothorita and is the final form ofGothita.
Gothitelle debuted inThe Lost World of Gothitelle!, where it preventedAsh andhis friends from crossing theSkyarrow Bridge. It then created an illusion of how its life used to be before the bridge was built, which was serving those who rode the ferry that traveled toCastelia City. Gothitelle eventually let the group cross the bridge after being reunited with its friendSally. It reappeared in a flashback inExplorers of the Hero's Ruin!.
Gothitelle, the Astral Body Pokémon. Gothitelle'sPsychic power is so great that it is said to warp space around it, and distort reality in the process.
Another Gothitelle is seen in the possession ofCaitlin inDream a Little Dream. She uses Gothitelle's psychic abilities to discreetly communicate with the UnovaGym Leaders andBlack.
Gothitelle can be seen as a counterpart toReuniclus. Both areGeneration VPsychic-type Pokémon that are the final stage of a three-stage evolutionary line with firstEvolution at level 32 and second at level 41. Gothitelle isexclusive to Pokémon Black, Black 2, and Sword, while Reuniclus is exclusive to Pokémon White, White 2, and Shield. They both have the same base experience and catch rates, gain new moves at similar levels, and have base stat totals of 490.
Origin
Gothitelle appears to be based on a stylized depiction of a woman wearingGothic-style clothing, as well as the common trope to associate goth girls with magical powers orwitchcraft. Goth styles themselves are often borrowed from the punk fashion and can also draw influence from Victorian and Elizabethan fashion periods of theUnited Kingdom. It also bears some resemblance to theFlatwoods monster, a cryptid that gained popularity in Japan.
Due to Gothitelle's ability to predict the future from stars, it may be based ondiviners, or more specificallyastrologers. Gothitelle learning its Trainer's life span likely references similar popular predictions given byfortune tellers. Due to their feminine appearance and association with the stars, Gothitelle and its pre-Evolutions may also be inspired by theVirgo sign andconstellation. This is further supported byGothorita being the Virgo equivalent in Unova'sHoroscope.
