Gothita (Japanese:ゴチムGothimu) is aPsychic-typePokémon introduced inGeneration V.

Itevolves intoGothorita starting atlevel 32, which evolves intoGothitelle starting at level 41.

Biology

Gothita is a small, humanoidPokémon. A small tuft of hair sticks up from the top of its purple head, and it has two white, bow-shaped feelers on each side of the head and a third bow-shaped feeler on its neck. These ribbon-like feelers are used to amplify Gothita's psychic power, and will cause Gothita to cry if touched. It has two large blue eyes with three eyelashes on each and small red lips. Its torso is black with a white zigzagging line running horizontally through the middle. Its arms and legs are short and stubby with no visible digits.

Gothita intently observes those around it, looking at something only it can see. It can become so focused that it ends up being unaware of attacks. Gothita are normally known to be innocent. It is usually quiet, but sometimes it makes muted cries, even when alone. This is believed to be Gothita communicating with invisible beings.

Evolution

Gothita evolves intoGothorita, which evolves intoGothitelle.

Trivia

  • Gothita can be seen as a parallel toSolosis. Both areGeneration VPsychic-typePokémon evolving once at level 32 and then again at level 41. Gothita isexclusive to Pokémon Black, Black 2, and Sword, while Solosis is exclusive to Pokémon White, White 2, and Shield. They both have the same base experience and catch rates, gain new moves at similar levels and have base stat totals of 290.

Origin

Gothita seems to be based on a child dressed inGothic Lolita fashion, as well as the common trope to associate goth girls with magical powers orwitchcraft. The Gothic Lolita fashion itself is highly influenced by thefashion from the Victorian period of the United Kingdom and also by styles from the Rococo period, the Rococo being an artistic movement born in the 18th century in France that later spread to other parts ofEurope and the colonialAmericas.

Due toGothitelle's ability to predict the future from stars, Gothita and its Evolutions may be based ondiviners, or more specificallyastrologers. Due to their feminine appearance and association with the stars, Gothita and its Evolutions may be inspired by theVirgo sign andconstellation. This is further supported byGothorita being the Virgo equivalent in Unova'sHoroscope.

Gothita was featured in an official Pokémon illustration for the Year of the Ox in 2021.[1] This is likely a pun involving its Japanese category name, ぎょうしポケモンGyoushi Pokémon (Staring Pokémon) and うしushi, a common reading of 牛 (cow).

Name origin

Gothita may be derived fromgothic and the Spanish feminine diminutive suffix-ita. It may also be a contraction ofGothic Lolita.

Gothimu may be a combination ofgothic andむちむちmuchimuchi (chubby). It may also involve予知夢yochimu (precognitive dream).
