Gordie (Japanese:マクワMakuwa) is theGym Leader ofCirchester'sGym, known officially asCirchester Stadium. Hespecializes inRock-typePokémon. He gives theRock Badge to Trainers who defeat him. InPokémon Shield, his mother,Melony, takes his place as Circhester's Gym Leader instead.

In the core series games

Gordie is the sixth Gym LeaderGalarTrainers face in theirGym Challenge in Pokémon Sword. He is believed to have received his education from his mother,Melony, who was the Gym Leader ofCirchester.[3] However, instead of becoming anIce-type user like Melony did, he chose to use theRock type due to him admiring that type more and wanting to find his own path to greatness. This resulted in the two falling out after a heated battle, which led to them almost never seeing each other since. There are fewGym Trainers in his Gym due to his strict training style.

As a rising star, many believed he has the potential of becoming theGalar LeagueChampion. Gordie usesRock-type Pokémon to achieve victory through a refined and graceful battle style, despite the type's rough and unrelenting reputation. He is considered one of the strongest Galar Trainers in terms of popularity and skills. He has a tendency to shut himself away in a locker room when he loses, making it hard to get an interview from him. Most of his fans find this trait to be endearing regardless. He has quite a large fanbase, and he tries his best to make his fans happy by either giving out autographs or hosting events. Currently, there are three photo albums on Gordie that were created by his fanbase.

After Gordie's initial defeat, the player is awarded with theRock Badge,TM48 (Rock Tomb), and theRock Uniform.

Though Gordie does not physically appear in Pokémon Shield, he can be seen with Melony on her rareLeague Card.

League Cards

This is a transcript of the back of Gordie'sLeague Cards inPokémon Sword.

Normal League Card
"Gordie is a young rising star that many suspect will be theChampion someday. ThoughRock-type Pokémon are typically known for being rough and unrelenting, Gordie has worked hard to achieve victory through a refined and graceful battle style. He always tries to keep his fans happy and thus is very popular among the audience. On the other hand, he has the surprising tendency of shutting himself away in the locker room when he is defeated, making postdefeat interviews a rarity. This doesn't bother most of his fans, though, and they see this behavior as endearing."
Rare League Card
"Gordie is one of the topTrainers of theGalar region, both in terms of popularity and skill. His strict training style means that his Gym has fewGym Trainers, but he does have quite a fan base. Gordie does his best to make sure his fans are happy, often seen giving out autographs or hosting events. There are currently three photo albums of Gordie, all published through the support of his fan base. This card shows another special photo, taken specifically for this purpose at a photo studio."

Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Gordie passed out from a fever he developed from waiting in the cold for too long. After recovering, Gordie went back to his Gym Leader duties and facedMarnie in a Gym battle, which he lost.

InRumble!! The Horrific Darkest Day, the Galar Gym Leaders gathered atRose Tower to find out ifRose intended on bringing harm to the region. WhileOleana kept the Gym Leaders busy, Henry, Casey,Bede,Hop, and Marnie went up to meet Rose, only find he was elsewhere. On a video screen, Rose announced his intention to restart theDarkest Day and ensure the safety of Galar's future. Power Spot lights began appearing all over the region, causing Pokémon to startDynamaxing at random. While some traveled to confront Rose at theHammerlockeEnergy Plant, Gordie went back to Circhester to help deal with the rampaging Dynamax Pokémon.

InGRRR!! The Irrepairable Gears,Macro Cosmos employees were dispatched to deal with the Dynamax Pokémon, allowing Gordie's group to provide backup for the others againstEternatus. By the time they arrived, Gordie's group found Eternatus had fled, leaving those who battled it unconscious and covered in poison. The injured were taken to a hospital to recover.
