History

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Goh first encountered Darmanitan inRaid Battle in The Ruins!, when he andAsh were travelling through theDesert Resort. Darmanitan stood outside the entrance to theColossus Ruins where it was in itsZen Mode. When approached, Darmanitan turned into its standard form. Goh quickly threw aPoké Ball, catching it and adding Darmanitan to his team.

Darmanitan was later sent out to battle agiantGolurk that was the Guardian of the Ruins afterScorbunny andBeedrill were knocked out. Battling alongsideAsh's Dragonite, Darmanitan was able to weaken Golurk, only for the floor beneath it to collapse, forcing Goh to throw a Poké Ball and catch Golurk to save it. Darmanitan was later seen in Zen Mode atCerise Laboratory alongside Goh's other Pokémon.

Darmanitan tauntingScorbunny

InKicking It from Here Into Tomorrow!, Darmanitan taunted Scorbunny over its lack of ability to use aFire-typemove and showed off by using its own Fire-type attack. This enraged Scorbunny to try and useEmber, which it was unable to do successfully, leading Darmanitan to continue to taunt it.

InPanic in the Park!, during a food shortage, Darmanitan led a group of Pokémon to fight for food against another group led byGoh's Scyther. When the commotion led toGoh's Golurk going berserk and flooding the Park, Darmanitan joined the other Pokémon to save Goh's threeCascoon.

InBattling in the Freezing Raid!, Darmanitan was the first Pokémon that Goh used in his Raid Battle against anArticuno, only for it to be immediately defeated by aBlizzard after being released from its Poké Ball.

InThis Could be the Start of Something Big!, Darmanitan attended a surprise party hosted by the Lab members commemorating Goh and Ash's departure.

Personality and characteristics

Darmanitan and Ash's Dragonite

Darmanitan is a strong Pokémon, as seen inRaid Battle in The Ruins!, where it held its own against agiantGolurk that had defeated multiple opponents.

Despite being recentlycaught, Darmanitan followed Goh's orders without any problems. It appears to respect Pokémon it perceives as strong, such as when it greetedAsh's Dragonite with a fist-bump after winning the battle against Golurk. However, it looks down on weaker Pokémon. For example, inKicking It from Here Into Tomorrow!, it tauntedScorbunny over it being unable to use aFire-type move; inSobble Spies a Stealthy Strategy!, it kept scaringSobble by popping out from the bushes. It turns into its Zen Form when it is relaxing or resting. It also has a quick temper, such as inPanic in the Park!, when it attackedSandile after it kicked it, and inSobble Spies a Stealthy Strategy!, when Sobble usedWater Gun at it and hid. Darmanitan likes to spar with strong Pokémon, as seen inGotta Catch a What?!, when it was sparring withHeracross.
