Biology

Glaceon creating powdery snow

Glaceon is a quadrupedal, mammalianPokémon covered in light-blue fur. It has long, pointed ears, dark eyes, and a small nose. A teal crest with two dangling flaps adorns its head, resembling hair or headgear. Glaceon has two dark blue, rhombus-shaped markings on its back; the tip of its tail, feet, and flaps are the same shade of blue.

By quickly lowering its body temperature to −75 °F (−60 °C), Glaceon can freeze its fur into needle-sharp icicles that it can fire. This is used for a number of purposes, such as self-defense, tackling prey, or staying safe while it sleeps.[1] Doing so also lets it instantly freeze the moisture in the atmosphere with just a singlecry to create small ice crystals and a flurry ofdiamond dust or ice pellets at its food. The diamond dust is noted to be gem-like in nature and glitters as it flutters around. Those captivated by Glaceon's beautiful snowfall will be frozen without realizing it. It is popular in ski resorts for its ability to create powdery snow from the coldness it generates.

Evolution data

Glaceonevolves fromEevee when exposed to anIce Rock or, fromGeneration VIII onwards, when exposed to anIce Stone. Eevee will always evolve into Glaceon when leveled up near an Ice Rock, even if theevolutionary conditions for it to evolve intoEspeon,Umbreon, orSylveon have also been met.

The Ice Rock is not present inPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, so Eevee cannot evolve into Glaceon in these games, as well asPokémon Sword and Shield andPokémon Scarlet and Violet, although Eevee can evolve into Glaceon with the Ice Stone in these games instead. The Ice Stone is not obtainable inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, so Eevee can only evolve into Glaceon with the Ice Rock. Eevee will never evolve into Glaceon inPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, as Glaceon is not present in those games.

Trivia

Origin

Like many of theEeveelutions, Glaceon shares characteristics with foxes, dogs, and cats. Its habitat being cold areas suggests that it may be more closely based on anarctic fox. Assuming Leafeon draws inspiration fromSiamese or othercolorpoint cats, Glaceon may also draw some inspiration from them (especially blue points). Its "hair" resembles anushanka or a scarf hat.

Name origin

Glaceon may be a combination ofglacier (a large, slow-moving mass of ice on land) orglace (French for ice) andeon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally).Eon is a suffix all Eeveelutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name. Incidentally, its name is also ananagram ofcongeal (to become solid, usually by cooling).

Glacia may be derived fromglacier. It may also involvegrace.
