Frustration (Japanese:やつあたりAngry Outburst) is a damage-dealingNormal-typemove introduced inGeneration II. It wasTM21 from Generation II toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Effect

Frustration inflicts damage and has no secondary effect. The base power of Frustration is dependent on the user'sfriendship. The lower the user's friendship is, the greater the base power of Frustration.

The base power can be calculated using the following formula:

Power=255Friendship2.5

If the user's friendship is 128 or more,Return is stronger than Frustration.

Generation II

The power of Frustration varies between 0 (at the maximum friendship value of 255) and 102 (at the minimum friendship value of 0).

Generation III to VII

The base power of Frustration is now set to 1 if the formula outputs 0.

Generation VIII onwards

Frustration cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In theRescue Team andExplorers series, Frustration deals damage depending on the user'sIQ. At 0 IQ, it deals 45 damage. The damage is decreased by 5 after reaching 50 and 100 IQ, and every 100 IQ after that, until it deals 5 damage at 700 IQ. Although not possible under normal gameplay, an IQ of 1000 or higher makes Frustration deal only 1 damage, while a negative value makes it behave like a one-hit knockout move.

In theAdventure Squad series, the damage instead starts at 35 at 0-199 IQ, and decreases by 5 every 100 IQ until it reaches 5 damage at 700 IQ.

InGates to Infinity onwards, with the removal of the IQ system, damage now decreases the more dungeons the user has been taken into. The damage is no longer fixed, instead based on the user's friendship, which increases by 2 upon entering a dungeon. There are four friendship tiers: 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, and 31+. The increases in power are very slight.
