Foongus (Japanese :タマゲタケ Tamagetake ) is a dual-typeGrass /Poison Pokémon introduced inGeneration V .
Itevolves intoAmoonguss starting atlevel 39.
Biology Foongus is a white, mushroom-likePokémon with a cap that looks quite similar to aPoké Ball . It has stubby, digit-less arms, a tiny mouth with large pink lips, and pinprick-like dark eyes. A theory suggests that the developer of modern Poké Balls actually modeled it after Foongus's cap due to liking the Pokémon, although this is supposition.
Foongus uses its Poké Ball-like pattern to lure people and Pokémon in grassy areas, before releasing a cloud of poisonous spores to defend itself. The spores can be used as a stomach medicine if thoroughly dried. Foongus moves by either hopping or turning on its side and rolling on its cap. It is one of theshortest Grass-type Pokémon. It prefers damp places, such as around trees.
Evolution Foongus evolves intoAmoonguss .

In the TCG Main article:Foongus (TCG) Trivia Foongus, along with its Evolution, is similar toVoltorb andElectrode in that it resembles aPoké Ball .However, unlike Voltorb and Electrode, it only has a Poké Ball design on it, instead of being in the shape of one. Likewise, it features the whole design, complete with the circle resembling the button in the middle (contrary to Voltorb's evolutionary line having just the shape and general colors, and according to the Pokédex, being transformed Poké Balls themselves). Foongus'sShiny form's coloration is reminiscent of that of theMaster Ball . It shares this trait with its evolved form. Foongus and its evolved form share their species name withParas ,Parasect ,Shroomish , andBreloom . They are all known as the Mushroom Pokémon. Foongus is tied withPaldean Wooper for the lowest baseSpeed stat of allPoison-type Pokémon. According toKen Sugimori , Foongus,Amoonguss ,Ferroseed , andFerrothorn were all designed by the same designer.[ 1] Origin Foongus appears to be based onAmanita muscaria or mushrooms of theAgaricus genus, due to it beingPoison-type . LikeVoltorb and itsevolved form , the idea of them being mistaken for the standard Item Balls is similar to amimic , a monster archetype commonly found in RPGs. It disguising as an useful object and its Poison-type could also generally be a reference topoisonous mushrooms which look likeedible mushrooms .
Name origin Foongus may be a combination offool (to deceive) andfungus . Together withits Evolution , their names are a corruption of the phrase, "Fungus among us." This is confirmed by Ali theStudent inNorth Province (Area Two) inPokémon Scarlet and Violet .
Tamagetake may be a combination of 玉tama (sphere), 魂消るtamageru (to be astonished), and 茸take (mushroom ).
