Pokémon the Series

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
Flint was first mentioned inAn Elite Meet and Greet! byLucian, and again inA Trainer and Child Reunion! byOfficer Jenny.
Flint made his physical debut inFlint Sparks the Fire!. He noticedAsh's determination as he walked by theSunyshore Gym, and went on to escort the group directly toVolkner, who was hiding away in theSunyshore Tower. After Volkner declined Ash's challenge to aGymbattle, Flint tookthe group to a café run by his old friend, theProprietor. Flint explained that he used to battle the Sunyshore street hoodlums with hisChimchar when he was younger. He came across Volkner one day and defeated him in battle, though the next time the pair met, Volkner won. The two soon became rivals and later good friends after having a Tag Battle against the Proprietor. After turning 20, Flint left hishometown and eventually became a member of theSinnohElite Four. At the same time, Volkner became the Sunyshore Gym Leader.

However, Flint constantly returned to Sunyshore City to convince the increasingly despondent Volkner to start battling again. After Volkner refused Ash's challenge for a battle again, Flint battled Ash in his place and defeatedAsh's Pikachu,Infernape, andBuizel with hisInfernape easily. In the process, Volkner observed the match and became reinvigorated upon observing Ash's teamwork with his Pokémon. Flint was glad to see this development and watched as Volkner reconsidered his decision to turn Ash away.
InThe Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore!, Flint sat in the grandstands to watch Volkner go up against Ash. The Gym battle was interrupted byTeam Rocket after they stole the Sunyshore Tower and caused the city to have a power outage. Flint, Volkner, and Ash all jumped onto the tower as Team Rocket was beginning to rocket into the sky, though Flint lost his grip and feel into the ocean below. However, he worked withBrock to provide pedal power to the localPokémon Center during the crisis. Flint later watched as Volkner landed the Sunyshore Tower back onto the ground, and he wishedDawn the best with her upcomingContests as she and her friends left Sunyshore.
InThe Eighth Wonder of the Sinnoh World!, Flint watched Volkner battle Ash again. In thenext episode, he savedKenny'sFloatzel from Team Rocket and won againstJasmine in anexhibition match. He also revealed that he would be challengingCynthia for the title ofSinnoh LeagueChampion.
Ash and his friends watched Flint battle Cynthia at theChampion League on TV inMemories are Made of Bliss!. As mentioned by the emcee, Flint's Infernape managed to defeat two of Cynthia's Pokémon. However, Flint lost the match after his Infernape was defeated byCynthia's Garchomp.
Flint made a cameo appearance in the ending credits ofZoroark: Master of Illusions.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series

InMeeting Up with the Monarch!, Flint had aWorld Coronation Series battle againstLeon, where he used Infernape againstLeon's Charizard, only to lose, causing his rank to drop from 7 to 8.
InAim For The Eight!, Flint was revealed to have fallen out of the Master Class.
InThe Fiery Road to Mastership!, Flint was shown watching Cynthia'sMasters Eight Tournament match againstIris.
Character
Flint is a supportive friend, and despite all of his success as a member of theElite Four, he made several efforts to reach out toVolkner over the years. He is also passionate about battling and a prolific user of defense, a strategy he used to defeatAsh and laterJasmine of theOlivine Gym. In addition to strategy, inFour Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!, Flint told Ash that having confidence in oneself is just as critical to being a successfulPokémon Trainer.

Platinum arc
Flint and Volkner are seen in theFight Area with their Pokémon. They are later seen investigating the hole at the Sendoff Spring when they receive a call fromBuck. He tells Buck about the object that he is looking for atStark Mountain, theMagma Stone, but the reception is lost and they get cut off.
Later, Flint and Volkner witness Platinum and her friends traveling to the Distortion World. Volkner teases Flint about caring that his younger brother has been injured, though Flint denies it and intends to defeat the person that beat Buck. Later, they arrive at theSendoff Spring, and enter the Distortion World through theTurnback Cave.
Upon arriving, they are attacked byGiratina and are chased throughout the Distortion World by it. Despite a powerful combination attack they used, Giratina proves too powerful for them and defeats the two with aDragon Breath. They manage to get up soon after, only for Giratina to leave to fight the otherLegendary Pokémon in the area.
After Charon is defeated, Giratina tries one last time to attack Platinum, only for Flint and Volkner to attack it from behind and defeat it. Satisfied, the two hi-five each other in a prideful boast of their strength.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!
Flint appeared inHareta's Heart's Desire as he found out about the tournament and wanted to compete in it. Rapidash was the first Pokémon sent out. It was up againstHareta's Empoleon. Despite the type-disadvantage, Rapidash was able to defeat Empoleon with aSunny Day/SolarBeam combo. He recalls Rapidash and sends out Drifblim while Hareta sends outRegigigas andMisdreavus.
However, Hareta had no choice but to use Misdreavus as he was disallowed to use two Pokémon at once. Drifblim was able to defeat Misdreavus withPayback but due to it usingSkill Swap beforehand, both Pokémon were out. Hareta than uses his Regigigas and Flint calls out Rapidash once again. Regigigas was able to defeat Rapidash withMega Punch. Flint has one more Pokémon but resigns before even using it, giving Hareta the win.
Later, inGathering of the Legendary Pokémon, he along with the Gym Leaders and Sinnoh Elite Four head to the Galactic HQ to take on the remaining Team Galactic grunts.
Pokémon
Rapidash was the first Pokémon used in the battle against Hareta. It went up against his Empoleon where it was able to knock it out despite the type-disadvantage.
Rapidash's known moves areAgility,Sunny Day, andSolar Beam.
Drifblim was used to finish off Hareta'sMisdreavus seeing that Hareta could not use both Misdreavus andRegigigas at the same time as it was against the rules to do so. However, after Drifblim went for an attack, it was stopped by Misdreavus'sSkill Swap which resulted in both side's Pokémon being knocked out as Misdreavus used Drifblim's AbilityAftermath from the effect of Skill Swap.
Drifblim's only known move isPayback, and its Ability isAftermath*.
Mentioned
After both Drifblim and Rapidash got knocked out, Flint mentions that he has aSteelix, but does not want to send it out for the match as he knows that it wouldn't stand a chance againstHareta's Regigigas.
None of Steelix's moves are known.

Trivia
- Although he specializes inFire types, inPokémon Diamond and Pearl, only two of the fivePokémon that Flint uses are actually Fire-type, with only eight Fire-type moves between them, only four of which are actual attacking moves. Each of Flint's Pokémon knows at least one Fire-type move. InPokémon Platinum, Flint's entire team consists of his type specialty.
- This can be attributed to the fact that Diamond and Pearl'sPokédex contains only two complete lines of Fire-type Pokémon, both of which he uses the final Evolutions of.
- Additionally each of Flint's non fire Fire-type Pokémon references fire.Driftblim is based on a hot air balloon which uses fire to fly.Steelix's pokedex entry describes it being "tempered underground under high pressure and heat". AndLopunny is a reference to the taleKachi Kachi (fire crackle) mountain a well known Japanese folktale. In the tale, a rabbit lights a bundle of kindling being carried by a tanuki, burning him badly, as revenge for the tanuki killing an old woman.
- Flint'sMagmortar is the only Pokémon of a member of the Elite Four to useSeals in Pokémon Platinum. Incidentally, it is used in the Double Battle withVolkner, who uses hisElectivire, the only Pokémon of aGym Leader to have Seals.
- If theplayer talks to Volkner in theVilla, he reveals that Flint uses Fire-type Pokémon due to his name.
- Flint is the only member of the Sinnoh Elite Four that doesn't have a Pokémon in any of his teams that knowsStone Edge.
- InPokémon Black 2 and White 2,Shauntal mentions Flint in one of her pre-battlequotes from her novels. She writes that his hairstyle "would be great withHead Charge," and that he is commanding a Pokémon to useOverheat.
- InPokémon Masters EX,Flint reveals he met hisDrifblim as aDrifloon at theValley Windworks.
- Flint has the least number of Pokémon
(excluding LV.X cards) cards, with only four (the other Sinnoh Elite Four members have five each). - In Pokémon Platinum, Flint and Volkner have many parallels in terms of their teams. Both use anEeveelution corresponding to their specialty type and both use many "counterpart" Pokémon, including their highest level Pokémon Magmortar and Electivire, both of which are Pokémon that had prior Evolutions from other generations and received a third Evolution inGeneration IV, and can only evolve through a held-item trade. Another such counterpart is Houndoom and Luxray, both of which mimic animals relating to real world canines and felines.
