Biology

Flareon is amammalian, quadrupedalPokémon covered in short, reddish-orange fur. It has long ears with black interiors, dark eyes, and a small black nose. There are three small toes and a yellow paw pad on each foot. Fluffy yellow fur forms a small tuft on its head, as well as its bushy tail and a mane around its chest and neck.

Flareon has a flame chamber inside its body that regulates its average body temperature, which rises when it is excited and can range anywhere from 1,300 to 1,700 °F (815.5556 to 926.6667 °C). When it stores some of the air it inhales in its flame sac, it can blow out flames that reach 3000-3,100 °F (1648.889-1704.444 °C). To keep itself from getting excessively hot, it fluffs out its fur collar to cool itself down and release heat into the air. Flareon is anomnivorous Pokémon that roasts eitherBerries or prey before consumption. It has a curious and inquisitive personality, and is mostly found inpopulated areas, rarely seen in the wilderness. As mentioned inPokémon Sleep, it is believed that Flareon is regulating its body temperature while sleeping. Due to its fur releasing heat to help it cool down, Flareon is able to sleep comfortably.[1]

Trivia

  • Flareon was designed byMotofumi Fujiwara.[2][3]
  • In English, thecategory "FlamePokémon" is shared byCharmeleon,Charizard, Flareon,KantonianMoltres, andInfernape.
    • In Japanese, Flareon has the category ほのおポケモンHonō Pokémon (Flame Pokémon), while the other four Pokémon share the category かえんポケモンKaen Pokémon (Flame Pokémon).
  • Flareon'sPokédex entries throughout various games inconsistently describe its maximum body temperature. InPokémon Red, Blue, andLeafGreen, it is stated to be 1600 degrees Fahrenheit. Most other games instead list is as 1650 degrees, except forPokémon Crystal Version, which says that it is 1700 degrees, andPokémon Moon, which mentions that it can range between 1,300 and 1,500 degrees.
    • Similarly, all games in which the temperature of Flareon's flames is mentioned state that it is 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit, except forPokémon FireRed, which instead says that it is 3,100 degrees.
  • Flareon is the onlyEeveelution with a type advantage against more than one other Eeveelution (Glaceon andLeafeon).
  • InPokémon Scarlet and Violet, Flareon is the only Eeveelution that is not able to swim, so it stands on a platform when sent out in battle above water.
    • Furthermore, prior to the Version 2.0.1 update of the game, Flareon was unable to learnFlame Charge viaTM.

Origin

Flareon's overall design has traits from multiple different mammal species. Its long ears, orange coloration and fluffy tail may derive fromfoxes such as thered fox, while its body shape and fluffy mane may be based onlions or certaincat breeds such as theNorwegian Forest cat andMaine Coon. It may also be inspired by certainrabbit breeds such as theLionhead.

Name origin

Flareon may be a combination offlare andeon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally).Eon is a suffix all Eeveelutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name.

Booster is literallybooster, possibly referring to thebooster rocket.
