TheEvolutions Prerelease Kit is a special product given to participants at the start ofPrerelease Tournaments for theEvolutions expansion. Prerelease Tournaments for the Evolutions expansion were held on the two weekends prior to the release of the expansion, on October 22-23, 2016 and October 29-30, 2016. Each Kit contains a random set of predetermined cards designed to enhance the experience of theLimited format tournament that follows.

Included in each Prerelease Kit is a 23-cardEvolution pack that includes one of the four specially stampedPrerelease cards for the expansion, as well as fourbooster packs. The Prerelease cards for the Evolutions expansion wereCharizard,Gyarados,Mewtwo, andMachamp, with the four different groups of possible Pokémon cards being based on their four types:Fire-type,Water-type,Psychic-type, andFighting-type.

The Evolutions Prerelease Kits also provided a number of exclusive Non Holofoils of cards only released as Holofoils in the Evolutions booster packs:Ninetales,Poliwrath,Nidoking,Mew, andHitmonchan. Nidoking and Hitmonchan would later be obtainable in theMewtwo Mayhem Theme Deck.

Each Prerelease Kit included two of the following four different groups of Pokémon cards, with one group always coinciding with the included Prerelease promo.

Each Prerelease Kit also included an additional random group of predetermined Trainer cards. No matter which group was included, at least oneTierno was provided. Only 3 in any combination of theSupporter cards and 2 in any combination ofItem cards were included.
