Earthquake (Japanese:じしんEarthquake) is a damage-dealingGround-typemove introduced inGeneration I.
It is:
- TM26 from Generation I toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
- TM41 inPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
- TR10 inPokémon Sword and Shield.
- TM149 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
- TM069 inPokémon Legends: Z-A.
Effect
Generation I
Earthquake inflicts damage and has no secondary effects.
Generation II
Earthquake can hit a Pokémon during the semi-invulnerable turn ofDig, and if it does, it will have its power doubled for that Pokémon.
Generations III and IV
Earthquake will hit all adjacent Pokémon, including allies.
Earthquake can be used as the first move of aPokémon Contest combination, causingEruption andFissure to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.
Earthquake is now affected byKing's Rock.
Generation V onwards
If Earthquake hits a Pokémon during the semi-invulnerable turn ofDig, instead of doubling power, damage is technically doubled instead now, resulting in virtually the same effect.
IfGrassy Terrain is in effect, Earthquake's power is halved when damaging Pokémon on the ground.
Generation IX
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Earthquake generates its damaging area around the user, similar toBulldoze andSludge Wave.

Pokémon UNITE
In Pokémon UNITE, Earthquake isGarchomp's andMamoswine's second move.
Garchomp can obtain the move by reaching level 7 asGabite and upgradingBulldoze into it instead ofDragon Claw. The user jumps and crashes forcefully to the ground, dealing damage in a wide radius and slowing enemies. After the initial damage, two aftershocks occur in the designated area, each dealing less damage than the initial move. At level 13, the slow increases near center.
Mamoswine can obtain the move by reaching level 7 asPiloswine and upgradingTackle into it instead ofHigh Horsepower. The user leaps up in the designated direction and lands forcefully, dealing damage to enemies in the area of effect and pulling them toward the user. At level 13, the movement speed of enemies is decreased for a short time when this move hits and the move's pulling is increased.

Trivia

- All fully evolvedfirst partner Pokémon introduced prior toGeneration V can learn Earthquake byTM26, althoughVenusaur couldn’t learn it untilGeneration III. From Generation V onwards, only the fully evolved Fire-type first partner Pokémon from odd-numbered generations and the fully evolved Grass-type first partner Pokémon from even-numbered generations can learn it.
- After the2004 Chūetsu earthquakes,a scheduled episode that would feature aWhiscash using Earthquake wasbanned in Japan. As a result, Earthquake, and the similar movesFissure andMagnitude, have not been seen or used in theanimated series since.
- Bulldoze, on the other hand, debuted nine years later inClemont's Got a Secret!.
- InPokémon Emerald,Cooltrainer Dianne inVictory Road has aLanturn that knows Earthquake, even thoughit cannot legitimately learn the move in any generation.
- Nincada,Palpitoad,Silvally,Toedscool, andToedscruel are the onlyGround-type Pokémon that cannot learn Earthquake.
- If a player teaches anAerodactyl Earthquake from aGeneration II game, trades it toGeneration I then uses that Aerodactyl inPokémon Stadium, the Aerodactyl will glitch and use a unique animation, where it spins quickly in place.
