Manual activation
When used from theBag in awild encounter, it attempts to catch the wild Pokémon. If used atevening or night or in acave, it has an increasedcatch rate modifier. The catch rate is not boosted inside of buildings, regardless of time.
The Dusk Ball cannot be used in situations in which Poké Balls cannot be used, such as in wild battles with two or more opponents currently present or against atrial Pokémon. If used in a Trainer battle, the opposing Trainer will deflect the ball, wasting the player's turn.
Generation IV to VI
If used in acave (exceptMirage Caves) or atnight, the Dusk Ball has a 3.5×catch rate modifier; otherwise, it has a 1× modifier.
InGeneration V only, in certain indoor areas (specifically,Strange House andVolcarona's room inRelic Castle), Dusk Balls only have a 1× modifier even at night.
Generation VII onward
If used atnight or in acave, the Dusk Ball has a 3×catch rate modifier; otherwise, it has a 1× modifier. If used on anUltra Beast, the catch rate modifier is instead always set to 410/4096× (~0.1×).
