Double Team (Japanese:かげぶんしんShadow Divide) is a non-damagingNormal-typemove introduced inGeneration I. It isTM32 from Generation I toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl., as well as inPokémon Legends: Z-A.

Contents

Effect

Double Team increases the user'sevasion by onestage.

If powered up by aNormalium Z into Z-Double Team, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Double Team can be used as the first move of aPokémon Contest combination, causingAgility,Quick Attack, andTeleport to score double the normal appeal if used in the next turn.

Generation IX

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

As the evasion andaccuracy stats do not exist in Z-A, Double Team instead causes the user to become intangible at the spot where it was used, which causes all attacks to harmlessly bypass the user and makes it untargetable by further moves for its duration.

Compared toProtect andDetect, Double Team's intangibility means thatPlus Moves will not harm a Double Team user but will partially ignore protection. To compensate, Double Team has a noticeable wind-up before its effect is triggered in contrast to the instant usage of Protect and Detect.

Trivia

  • This move's Japanese name, かげぶんしんkage bunshin, is a reference to a ninja technique ubiquitous in manga, anime, and other fiction commonly known in English asshadow clone. A popular example of this is theNaruto series, where the main character,Naruto Uzumaki, has usedKage Bunshin no Jutsu throughout the series as one of his signature ninja techniques.
  • The move's description in the Stadium games erroneously states that it lowers the opponent's accuracy.
  • In Super Smash Bros, one ofGreninja's victory poses has it use Double Team.
