TheCinnabar Lab (Japanese:グレンラボラトリーGuren Laboratory), also calledPokémon Lab (Japanese:ポケモンけんきゅうじょPokémon Laboratory), is aresearch facility located onCinnabar Island.

In the games

It was founded by Dr. Fuji (Japanese:フジ博士Dr. Fuji), the title held byMr. Fuji in his youth.

It only appears in theGeneration I games and theirremakes due to it being destroyed along the rest ofCinnabar Island prior to the events of theGeneration II games andPokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Asfossils are obtainable in HeartGold and SoulSilver and the lab is no longer present, players must revive them at thePewter Museum of Science instead.

According to a report found inSilph Co.,Porygon was created by the lab.

Hall

The hall has a large reception area and a path to the west which provides access to three rooms.

In the reception area, there is a portrait of Dr. Fuji. The player is surprised upon reading the name, indicating familiarity.

Rooms

In the reception room of the Pokémon Lab, there are two people who will offer totradePokémon.

In the research lab, there is a man who is interested inMetronome. In theGeneration I games, he gives awayTM35 (Metronome). In FireRed and LeafGreen, he is aMove Tutor for the move instead. On a computer, the player can read an email from the Pokémon Research Team that mentions thelegendary birdsArticuno,Zapdos, andMoltres, as well as their intentions to exploreCerulean Cave, whereanother Legendary Pokémon closely related toMew is hiding.

In the experimental lab, there is a scientist who can revive thefossils the player can find atMt. Moon,Pewter Museum of Science, andCerulean CavePE. InGenerationsI andIII, after giving him the fossil, the player must exit the lab and return to claim their fossil Pokémon, while inGeneration VII, the fossil is revived immediately. There is also a thirdin-game trade here:

  • In the Japanese Pokémon Red and Green, international Pokémon Red and Blue, and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the trade is aSeel for aPonyta.
  • In the Japanese Pokémon Blue, the trade is aKrabby for aGrowlithe.
  • In Pokémon Yellow, the trade is aMuk forKangaskhan.

InPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, no trades are available at the lab.

Its second floor appears to be a Pokémon exercise and training center with a pool and fitness equipment.Team Rocket attempted to go there and steal the Lab'sFighting-type Pokémon, bombing the building's roof in the process. AfterBlaine had received a phone call about the bombing, Ash and his friends intervened and sent Team Rocket blasting off.
