Cedric debuted at the end ofEvolution Exchange Excitement!, where he stumbled out ofChargestone Cave and fainted out of hunger. Inthe next episode, his daughter gave him some food to eat and he regained his strength. She also returned his pen which she found lodged in aKlinklang's gears in the previous episode. Professor Juniper toldAsh andhis friends that her father studied the origins of legendary Pokémon likeReshiram andZekrom. He then said that he believed he had discoveredthe cave where the Black Hero had met Zekrom. He was planning to go back and Ash begged if he and his friends could come along. He agreed and led the way to the ruins.

When the group came upon the "GoldenDark Stone", in the center of the ruins, Cedric told Ash that it must be kept in place. However, the excitement of the situation overcame the professor and he took the stone while the others weren't looking. Because of this, they were driven to the deepest part of the ruins byCofagrigus which was just what he had hoped for. He discovered that it was the bottom of the ruins where the Black Hero had communicated with Zekrom. Cedric later found the exit to the cave and put the Golden Dark Stone back in its place.
Cofagrigus andSigilyph were still angry about the Golden Dark Stone being taken, however. As a result, Cofagrigus sent him, Ash,Iris, andCilan high in the air withTelekinesis before letting them go to plummet to the ground. The professor said that if they were able to link their hearts to the Pokémon, they would be saved and he was correct. He later discovered that all the paths they took in the ruins came out in the shape of a Zekrom, which confirmed that they were indeed the ruins of the Black Hero. After the group left the ruins, Cedric said that he would stay behind and continue to do his research in the area and the group said their goodbyes to him.
InNew Places... Familiar Faces!, Cedric made a call to his daughter, who was visited by Ash, Iris and Cilan. He told them that he had made some interesting discoveries about the White Ruins nearIcirrus City, to which Ash and his friends decided they would go and visit him and hear about his research.
InTeam Plasma's Pokémon Manipulation!, Cedric was seen excavating at the White Ruins, unaware that he was being watched by a couple ofTeam Plasma Grunts.
InAsh and N: A Clash of Ideals!,Team Plasma and the Awakening Ceremony!, andWhat Lies Beyond Truth and Ideals!, Cedric witnessed the climax ofTeam Plasma's plot to summon and take control ofReshiram. He andhis assistants spent most of the event captured by Team Plasma afterColress used a machine to take control of his assistants' Pokémon, but he was eventually freed byCilan's Crustle.
Cedric made a cameo appearance in the ending credits ofGenesect and the Legend Awakened.
Character
Cedric has a tendency to pause in the middle of his sentences, which led to some miscommunication between him and the kids. For instance, when Ash asked to go with him to the ruins, he responded with "I never...", which led everyone into saying that he declined the offer. After that, he continued his sentence with: "...refuse bright young folks". This later caused problems avoiding the traps inside the ruins. He also enjoyed withholding information from the kids so that the experience could be more adventurous for them.

Black & White arc
Cedric Juniper is a Pokémon researcher and the father ofProfessor Juniper. He first appeared inA Nickname for Tepig during a flashback ofBlack,Cheren, andBianca's childhood. The children watched an interview Cedric had with a reporter where they discussed the creation of a newPokédex.
InAt Liberty on Liberty Garden, Cedric arrived at Professor Juniper's lab to assist her in repairing two damaged Pokédexes meant for Cheren and Bianca. ByA Lost Melody, the Pokédexes were fixed. Cedric was sent toCastelia City, where he met with Bianca. To Professor Juniper's surprise, Bianca revealed she had chosen to give up on her Pokémon journey and become her assistant instead. When asked about the Pokédex, Bianca decided to give it toWhite.
InA Week to Go and Old Wounds, Cedric encountered Black andIris atRoute 6. There, he told them about theLegendary PokémonCobalion,Virizion, andTerrakion and their distrust of humans. With the information he learned, Black was able to track down theSwords of Justice and rescue a group of Pokémon they took from their Trainers.
InWill the Truth Come Out?, Cedric appeared to demand thatN reveal the whereabouts of theGym Leaders Team Plasma had kidnapped. He, Black, and White teamed up to battle N. During the battle, Cedric revealed that a year ago, N broke into his lab and stole three first partner Pokémon he prepared for new Trainers. While theSnivy went with N and theTepig was found by White, theOshawott chose to stay with him, eventually evolving into aSamurott. Though the battle ended in N's defeat, he managed to flee without revealing anything. As N left, his Pokémon forcibly took the third Pokédex meant for Cheren and destroyed it.
InCold Hard Truth, Team Plasma launched their attack on thePokémon League, surrounding the area withN's Castle. During Black's final battle against N he was assisted by Cedric,Looker, andLeo, who attempted to attack N'sZekrom. When their attacks failed, Cedric upgraded Black's Pokédex with information on Zekrom andReshiram. This allowed Black to figure out how Reshiram's powers worked, enabling him to defeat N.
Black 2 & White 2 arc
InPink Slip, Cedric, Bianca, Professor Juniper,Fennel, andAmanita hid in Fennel's house inStriaton City, which had been frozen by Team Plasma's flying ship, thePlasma Frigate. Fennel revealed that she discovered another dimension known as thePokémon Dream World and hypothesized that Black may have been sent there after being sealed into theLight Stone. Hearing this, Bianca immediately decided to go to theEntralink, but Fennel admitted she already sent White there to confirm her theory. The plan proved to be a success, as White managed to find and obtain the Light Stone.
InThe Final Battle, Cedric and Bianca traveled toUndella Town, which had also been frozen by the Plasma Frigate. They attempted to break the ice covering theMarine Tube's entrance to free Cheren and his class, who had been using the place as shelter. With the combined might ofWater Pledge,Grass Pledge, andFire Pledge, Bianca, Cheren, Cedric, andBenga destroyed the ice and rescued everyone. After confirming the safety of Cheren's missing students, Bianca revealed to him that Black had been freed from the Light Stone. Cedric and the others were transported to the abandoned N's Castle. The area had been set ablaze when the Plasma Frigate crashed into it, putting the Pokémon Team Plasma left behind at risk. In order to put the flames out, Cedric, Black, White, Blake, Whitley,Hugh, Cheren, Bianca, and Benga combined the might of all three stages of the Unovafirst partner Pokémon and unleashed a triple Water, Grass, and Fire Pledge combination attack.

Samurott was originally an Oshawott that was intended to be given to starting Trainers by Cedric along with the ones given by his daughter. N liberated the other two Pokémon—one of which ended up with White—while it stayed with Cedric and eventually evolved. It appeared with Cedric when he came to help Black and White fight against N. Together with Black's Bo and White's Amanda, they managed to defeat N, only for him to escape. During the final battle against N, Samurott was used against N's Zekrom alongsideLooker'sCroagunk and Leo'sDeino. In the final battle against new Team Plasma, it used Water Pledge with the other first partner Pokémon to put out the fire on N's Castle.
