Generation I

BubbleBeam does damage and has a 33.2% chance of lowering the target'sSpeed stat by one stage.

When used by an in-game opponent, there is an additional chance of 25% for the effect to fail (resulting in an effective chance of 24.9%).

Generation II

BubbleBeam now has a 10% chance of lowering the target's Speed stat by one stage.

When used by an in-game opponent, there is still an additional chance of 25% for the effect to fail (resulting in an effective chance of 7.5%). This does not apply whenLock-On orMind Reader are in effect, nor in theBattle Tower.

Generation III onwards

Bubble Beam's effect no longer has an additional chance to fail when used by an in-game opponent.

Bubble Beam can be used as the second move of aPokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 1 bonus appeal point ifRain Dance was used in the previous turn.
