History
Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

Bonsly first appeared inFrom Cradle to Save, where he was found by Brock and his friends near thePokémon Ninja School. Starving, Bonsly began to cry uncontrollably, with Brock failing to feed him anOran Berry. He switched to a bottle, which Bonsly finished readily. Realizing the youngBonsai Pokémon was all alone, Brock suggested that Bonsly should join him. Bonsly, however, wanted to prove himself in a battle first. He faced off againstBrock's Forretress, whose Rapid Spin temporarily knocked Bonsly out, but this was not enough to catch him. However, once Bonsly got up, he was pricked by the Spikes that Forretress had fired while Bonsly was disoriented, knocking him down again and this time allowing Brock to catch him.
InOff the Unbeaten Path, Brock and Bonsly competed in thePokémon Orienteering Contest, with the goal being to find five checkpoints spread across the island. After obtaining the first checkpoint, the two get caught in a trap byTeam Rocket. They eventually escaped and showed up just in time to saveMay andMax from falling off a cliff. They are then approached bySwellow, who informed them Team Rocket was up to no good. Due to this, the group ended up abandoning the race.
InKing and Queen for a Day!, Bonsly, along withAsh's Pikachu,Meowth, andJames's Mime Jr., were blasted off after an encounter withTeam Rocket. After landing somewhere in the nearby town, the group was chased by three men in black suits. Escaping them a few times, they stumbled upon a casting crew, where it was revealed that a Bonsly and Mime Jr. had gone missing from the set. With no other choice, theDirector decided to cast the two. Team Rocket, however, interrupted the filming, causing a fight to break out. Bonsly and Mime Jr. attacked each other and the battle was captured by the camera. The strange turn of events ended up satisfying the Director, who wrapped up the filming.
InWhat I Did for Love!, Brock entered Bonsly in theGardenia TownPokémon Contest in an attempt to win the affections of aPokémon Breeder namedYuma. Bonsly was used in theAppeals Round, where he started off by using Fake Tears, followed by juggling baseballs that Brock threw to him using Flail. The performance impressed thepanel of judges enough for them to grant Brock a place among theCoordinators advancing to theContest Battles.
Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
When Brock joined up with Ash inSinnoh, Bonsly was the only Pokémon he brought with him. Bonsly showed signs of maturation early into this journey, learning themove Mimic inA Staravia Is Born! and eating solid food inLeave it to Brocko!. During the latter episode, after being captured byTeam Rocket, Bonslyevolved intoSudowoodo to help free Brock and aNuzleaf, defeatingJames's Carnivine in abattle. He was also shown to have gained a significant increase in his power and battling skills afterwards. Instead of being needy and heavily reliant on Brock's care, Sudowoodo was eager to help Brock in almost any task.

InTag! We're It...!, Sudowoodo was used in the first round of theHearthome City Tag Battle Competition. It was paired off withHolly'sWingull and was up against aYanma andBagon. Wingull attacked withBlizzard but was countered by Yanma'sSteel Wing while Sudowoodo used Double-Edge against Bagon'sZen Headbutt. While their opponents argue about strategy, Sudowoodo uses Flail and Wingull performsAerial Ace to defeat their Pokémon and advance to the next round.
InA Full Course Tag Battle!, Sudowoodo was used in a tag battle alongside Ash and hisPikachu againstRoman's Snorlax andKylie's Munchlax. He was able to defeat Munchlax with a powerful Double-Edge while Pikachu defeated Snorlax with oneVolt Tackle.
InSaving the World from Ruins!, Sudowoodo teamed up with Croagunk andAsh's Staravia to attackTeam Galactic'sGolbat army. This created an opening for Pikachu to destroy Team Galactic's machine and free theSteel-type Pokémon that were being controlled.

InBattling a Cute Drama!, Brock met a Trainer namedMarilyn and quickly became irritated by Marilyn's superficial attitude towards Pokémon. He decided to teach her about the inner strength and beauty of Pokémon with a battle and used Sudowoodo as his first Pokémon. Sudowoodo scores a direct hit with Double-Edge, making Cherubi fall down dramatically. Marilyn ignores the fact it hit and remarks on how Cherubi took the hit, causing Brock to scold her some more. Brock orders Sudowoodo to use Mimic, causing it to fall dramatically too, followed by Fake Tears and Sudowoodo is soon sobbing on the floor. This causes Marilyn to start realizing the true battle strength of Pokémon. Wanting to move things along so he can view Marilyn's other Pokémon,James declares the round a tie.
InChallenging a Towering Figure!, Sudowoodo was used in theFestival Battle Challenge, a tournament marking the end of theTwinleaf Festival whose winner gets a chance to battlePalmer. Sudowoodo was seen defeating a Trainer'sFurret, though he was knocked out of the tournament off-screen before the finals.
He was seen helping Ash train hisInfernape inWorking on a Right Move!. With this training, Infernape was able to learnFlare Blitz, which was so strong, it accidentally knocked Sudowoodo out in the process.
Brock used Sudowoodo in a battle against aNurse Joy from thePokémon Inspection Agency and herChansey inDPS02. However, he was caught off guard and defeated when Chansey usedAttract. He was later seen cheering onForrest when he battled the same Nurse Joy and helped Brock aid Forrest'sRhyperior to recover. Along withLola'sMarill, he serves as a playmate toBrock's siblings.
Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon
InHeart of Fire! Heart of Stone!, Sudowoodo accompanied Brock toAlola. Sudowoodo was used to battleOlivia and herLycanroc, only for the match to be interrupted by Team Rocket, who attempted to steal all of the Pokémon. When Team Rocket's efforts failed and they attempted to escape, Brock had Sudowoodo attack theirmecha.
Personality and characteristics

Being much younger than the other Pokémon inthe group, Bonsly was portrayed as needy, childlike, and easily upset. Brock was often seen bottle-feeding him until he could eat solidfood. Since hisEvolution, he has matured and is no longer a crybaby. In fact, he is very upbeat, as seen inAll Dressed Up With Somewhere to Go!, when he recovered from a crushing disappointment almost instantly. He also has an odd tendency tosalute Brock whenever he is called from hisPoké Ball.
Bonsly occasionally took over fromMax in getting Brock away from girls. However, rather than pull his ear, Bonsly would hit him with a powerfulDouble-Edge. He apparently did not want to share Brock, his "parent", with anyone else.
Since Brock brought anotherbaby Pokémon onto histeam by hatchingHappiny from theEgg he won in thePokémon Dress-Up Contest, Sudowoodo seems to have bonded with her, and the two frequently are featured doing activities together, almost as if Sudowoodo is an older sibling.
