Trivia
- Brendan is based on theplayer character of theHoenn-based games, as his character description mentions that his father is Norman. In addition, Brendan mentions in hissync pair story that he has already beaten his father.
- In a conversation with Brendan in thePokémon Center, it is revealed that he owns aTaillow and aZigzagoon.
- It is unknown if Brendan caught a separate Swellow, or if he eventually evolved his Taillow into his current Swellow.
- It has been hinted that Brendan might have a crush on May.[8]
- Brendan & Treecko are one of four sync pairs who have had an increased recruitment chance in a seasonal scout without being a seasonal sync pair. The other three are Karen & Houndoom, Hilda & Tepig, and Blue & Pidgeot.
- Brendan's Pokémon Adventures counterpart is depicted with aMightyena. It may also be based on thePoochyena the player encounters during theDexNav tutorial inPokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
- All versions of Brendan use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers includeMay,Wally,Norman, andSteven.
- Brendan also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with May, Wally, or Steven in the same team.
- In hissygna suit'ssync pair story, Brendan mentions hearing a rumor about blue and red Pokémon flying around different regions. This may be a reference to how the player can catch Latios orLatias inPokémon Emerald after seeing a newscast about a Pokémon flying around the region, with the player choosing whether the Pokémon on the news was red or blue.
Origin
Brendan's design is based on his appearance inPokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Treecko is one of thefirst partner Pokémon ofHoenn in thecore series games. Sceptile'sMega Stone is automatically obtained during the story of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire if the player chooses Treecko, allowing Sceptile toMega Evolve. In addition, Brendan'sPokémon Generations andPokémon Battle Frontier counterparts have been depicted with Sceptile. Treecko, Grovyle, and Sceptile'sDex entries come fromPokémon Ruby.
As the rival character, Brendan uses a Swellow on his team beginning with his fourth battle against the player in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. Swellow's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby.
Latios is aLegendary Pokémon that is automatically obtained atSouthern Island during the story of Omega Ruby. He is also holding his Mega Stone when obtained, allowing him to Mega Evolve. In addition, Brendan is depicted with Latios in thePokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Animated Trailer, andhis Pokémon Adventures counterpart teams up with aLatios during theOmega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc, with both counterparts Mega Evolving Latios. Latios's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby.
Groudon is theversion mascot of Pokémon Ruby and Omega Ruby, where it is encountered and potentially caught by the player. Groudon's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Omega Ruby.
Marshtomp is the evolved form of Mudkip, one of the first partner Pokémon of Hoenn in the core series games. As the rival character, Brendan uses a Marshtomp if the player choosesTorchic as their first partner Pokémon. In addition, Brendan'sPokémon Adventures counterpart has been depicted with aMarshtomp, who was originally caught as a Mudkip and eventually evolved into aSwampert, while hisanimated series counterpart owns Marshtomp's evolved form Swampert. Marshtomp's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby.
