Blizzard (Japanese:ふぶきBlizzard) is a damage-dealingIce-typemove introduced inGeneration I.
It is:
- TM14 from Generation I toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
- TM51 inPokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
- TR06 inPokémon Sword and Shield.
- TM143 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.
- TM105 inPokémon Legends: Z-A.
Effect
Generation I
Blizzard does damage and has a 10% chance offreezing the target. It has an accuracy of 90% in Generation I.
In the Japanese versions of theGeneration Icore series games, Blizzard had a 30% chance of freezing. The chance was lowered to 10% forPokémon Yellow'sColosseum 2, theStadium games, and all international Generation I games.
Generations II and III
The accuracy of Blizzard was reduced to 70%.Blizzard will hit both opponents in aDouble Battle.
Blizzard can be used as the second move of aPokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points ifHail orPowder Snow was used in the previous turn.
Generations IV and V
When used duringhail, Blizzard bypassesaccuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in thesemi-invulnerable turn of a move such asDig orFly. InPokémon Diamond and Pearl, due to a glitch, when used in hail, it has a 30% chance to hit a target that has usedProtect orDetect; this was fixed inPokémon Platinum onward.
InTriple Battles, Blizzard will only hit opposing adjacent Pokémon.
Generation VI onward
Blizzard's power was lowered from 120 to 110. InHorde Encounters, it will target all opponents. Blizzard will also knock downBerries growing onBerry trees found in the background ofbattles.
Blizzard can also be used as part of aContest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if the moveHail was used in the prior turn.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Like all other moves in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Blizzard only hits one target.
Generation IX
When used duringsnow, Blizzard bypassesaccuracy checks to always hit, unless the target is in thesemi-invulnerable turn of a move such asDig orFly.
Blizzard is considered awind move, and will activateWind Power orWind Rider if a Pokémon with thatAbility is hit with it.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Blizzard functions similarly toThunder andHurricane (coincidentally all moves that have 70% accuracy in the turn-based games). Upon the wind-up completing a small, snowy wind effect appears underneath the target's current location, which intensifies into the actual blizzard to deal damage after a delay.

Pokémon UNITE
In Pokémon UNITE, Blizzard isAlolan Ninetales's second move. It is obtained by reaching level 6 and upgradingIcy Wind into it instead ofAurora Veil. The user blasts twice in a line. The first blast penetrates walls. The second blast deals double damage, shoves enemies back, and if it hits a wall, it creates a frost area at the impact location for 3s, dealing damage every .5s. At level 13, its damage increases. Due to the effect ofSnow Warning, Blizzard slings snow and contributes to Alolan Ninetalesfreezing opposing Pokémon.

Trivia
- The English manual forPokémon Yellow mentions that "Blizzard's probability of freezing changes by 10%" when used inColosseum 2. This is actually a mistranslation of something that only occurs in the Japanese version. In the Japanese Generation I handheld games, Blizzard has a 30% chance of freezing its target, but in Pokémon Yellow's Colosseum 2 this is reduced to 10%; in international releases, Blizzard always has a 10% chance of freezing its target.
- Save forSnom, everyIce-type is capable of learning Blizzard.
