Baton Pass (Japanese:バトンタッチBaton Touch) is a non-damagingNormal-typemove introduced inGeneration II. It wasTR29 inPokémon Sword and Shield, and isTM132 inPokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Effect

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason:Baton Pass passes any of those? Nightmare, Encore, Throat Chop, Torment, etc.
You candiscuss this on the talk page.

Baton Passswitches out the user, passing all temporarystat stage increases and decreases on to the Pokémon that replaces it inbattle. Baton Pass also passes somevolatile status conditions, namelyconfusion, getting pumped, escape prevention,Ability suppression, seeding,Curse,Substitute,Ingrain,Power Trick,Heal Block,Embargo,Perish Song,Magnet Rise, andAqua Ring. Ability suppression disappears if the replacement Pokémon's Abilitycannot be suppressed.

Baton Pass passes the effect ofTelekinesis, unless the replacement Pokémon isMegaGengar. Prior toGeneration V, if a Pokémon prevents a target from escaping and then uses Baton Pass, the target will be trapped. Starting in Generation V, this effect cannot be passed by the user. In all generations, the effect can be passed if the Pokémon that can't escape uses Baton Pass.

Baton Pass does not pass non-volatilestatus conditions, infatuation, drowsiness (fromYawn orG-Max Snooze),center of attention (fromSpotlight), atype change,Ability change, a move learned byMimic, or a transformation (fromTransform orImposter). It also does not pass the effects ofDisable (even if the replacement Pokémon knows the disabled move),Imprison, orDefense Curl's effect of doubling the power ofRollout orIce Ball, or the critical hit rate boosts fromG-Max Chi Strike.[1] It does not passMinimize's tiny sprite, or its effect of causing the user to become more vulnerable to some moves (Stomp,Steamroller,Heat Crash, etc.).

Even though the Baton Pass user switches out,Pursuit has no additionalpower orpriority against it.

Baton Pass fails if there are no other Pokémon in the user'sparty that can be switched in in its place.

From Generation II to IV, the animation will always display anormal Poké Ball. Starting in Generation V, the correct type of Poké Ball the user was caught with is displayed in the animation.

Baton Pass can also be used as part of aContest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if a certain move (Agility,Amnesia,Autotomize,Calm Mind,Cotton Guard,Hone Claws,Nasty Plot,Rock Polish, orShell Smash) was used in the prior turn.

If powered up by aNormalium Z into Z-Baton Pass, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

InRescue Team,Explorers andAdventure Squad series, Baton Pass targets all other Pokémon in the room and consecutively swaps places with them (assuming it doesn't miss them) in a mostly random order (prioritizing allies before enemies). A Pokémon that stays on a tile they cannot walk on will be warped away.

InGates to Infinity, the user switches places with a teammate in front, and the switched ally receives a random stat boost; when used by an enemy, they will switch places with another enemy on the floor. InSuper Mystery Dungeon, the user now switches with a teammate anywhere on the floor who is ordered first on the team list (or second on the list if the user is listed first).
