Attract (Japanese:メロメロMad Love) is a non-damagingNormal-typemove introduced inGeneration II. It wasTM45 from Generation II toPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, andTM31 inPokémon Sword and Shield.

Effect

The target becomesinfatuated with the user if they have oppositegenders. Attract works regardless oftype immunity. Unlike moststatus moves, Attract is able to bypass asubstitute.

Attract has no effect if the user and target have the same gender, or if either of them is agender-unknown Pokémon (such asMagnemite). It also fails when used on a Pokémon that is already infatuated.

Pokémon with the AbilityOblivious or under the protection ofAroma Veil are immune to the effects of Attract. If a Pokémon is infatuated by Attract whileholding aMental Herb or anEggant Berry, the item will be consumed and the infatuation will end. Even if the Pokémon has Oblivious, the item will still be consumed.

If the target Pokémon becomes infatuated while holding aDestiny Knot, the user will also become infatuated with the target.

In Generation IV only, due to anoversight, if an infatuated Pokémon has usedRage and then successfully selects a different move, the Pokémon will no longer be infatuated, but its rage will still be building.

If powered up by aNormalium Z into Z-Attract, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Unlike inMax Raid Battle, Attract does not affect opponents inTera Raid Battle regardless of their gender sinceTerastallized raid bosses are immune toinfatuation.

Attract inflicts theInfatuated status condition on the target. Gender is a gameplay mechanic only inExplorers andAdventure Squad series; in other games, infatuation works on all Pokémon. Infatuation lasts for 5-6RBTDS / 6 turnsGtISMD and prevents attacks 100%RBTDS / 50%GtISMD of the time. Prior to Gates to Infinity, Infatuation prevented all movement or item use as well.
