AnArtist (Japanese:芸術家(げいじゅつか)Artist) is a type ofPokémon Trainer that debuted in theGeneration IVgames. They are most commonly depicted as old men wearing berets and carrying art supplies. They are similar to thePainter class fromPokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. In Generation IV, they use Pokémon that can learnCopycat andMimic, such asBonsly andMime Jr., as well as Pokémon related to the arts, such asKricketune andSmeargle.

InGeneration V'sBattle Subway, some of them specialize in Pokémon resembling decorative art, with many of these beingSteel-type Pokémon.

InGeneration VI, female Artists, depicted as young women holding a paintbrush covered in paint, were introduced. Similar toGeneration III's Painters, Artists exclusively useSmeargle. InDouble Battles, two Artists, one male and female, form anArtist Family.

InPokémon Sword and Shield, Artists are depicted as deranged men holding clay sculptures. They keep their Pokémon inGreat Balls. In theBattle Tower, Artists specialize in a mix ofFairy-type Pokémon and Pokémon that benefit fromTrick Room.

InPokémon Scarlet and Violet, Artists are depicted as young female graffiti artists wearing gas masks.
