Pokémon world locations

Altar of the Sunne (Japanese:日輪の祭壇Altar of the Sun) is a location onPoni Island inAlola, located at the far end ofVast Poni Canyon.

While ordinarily it is only accessible inPokémon Sun andPokémon Ultra Sun, it can be accessed inPokémon Moon andPokémon Ultra Moon after becomingChampion by traveling through theUltra Wormhole in theAltar of the Moone.

During the story of Pokémon Sun, theplayer travels toUltra Space from the Altar of the Sunne usingSolgaleo's power.

Geography

An entrance can be seen on the other side of theDragonium Z's pedestal from thetrial inVast Poni Canyon. It will lead the player to an immensely deep and vast canyon with an extremely long staircase with holes in some spots on the sides. At the top of it, there will be three staircases that get thinner and shorter progressively. At the top of the second, there will be paths leading in a circle on both sides. There are also two pedestals bearing the Sunne symbol on both sides of the third staircase, which leads to a center area with a rhombus-like shape with a large, Sunne symbol in the center. On the left and right of this are paths to stone "islands" with water surrounding them. These appear on each side of a crevice in the middle that is filled with water. The water surrounding the islands flows from a small stream that connects to two spires that lead to a giant circular door resting on a huge mass of rock, but it only opens in a certain part of the storyline. When it does, the altar shoots a laser-like beam toward the sun pattern, which is where Nebby, now aCosmoem, would position itself to evolve intoSolgaleo.

Ultra Wormhole

In Pokémon Sun or Ultra Sun, after becomingChampion, if the player hasSolgaleo in theparty atnight orLunala during the day, they can open thedimensional distortion into anUltra Wormhole and travel to analternate world. This world experiences the daytime when the other world is in the night and vice versa, similar to Pokémon Moon or Ultra Moon. Unlike Pokémon Moon or Ultra Moon, however, this world's time is not offset by 12 hours from the other world's; rather, whenever the player enters this world, it is always the start of either the day or the night (6 AM or 6 PM), from which point time progresses normally so long as the player remains in the world. In this world, the Altar of the Sunne is also replaced by theAltar of the Moone, while theLake of the Moone is replaced by theLake of the Sunne. All other aspects (such asthe Pokémon that can be found and thefashion items that can be bought) remain the same as in Pokémon Sun in this world. Traveling through the Ultra Wormhole deposits the player at the Altar of the Moone, where the distortion remains open as an Ultra Wormhole (meaning the player can return at any time without needing Solgaleo or Lunala in their party).

In Pokémon Moon or Ultra Moon, the player can access the Altar of the Sunne by creating an Ultra Wormhole at the Altar of the Moone to travel there. At the Altar of the Sunne, the distortion remains open as an Ultra Wormhole and the player can return to their own world at any time (without needing Solgaleo or Lunala in their party).

In Pokémon Ultra Sun,Necrozma's presence in the party will allow the player to travel to the Altar of the Moone in the reverse world from the dimensional distortion, provided it is in itsDusk Mane form at night or itsDawn Wings form during the day.

Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon

The Altar of the Sunne debuted inA Dream Encounter!, whereLusamine,Faba,Wicke, andProfessor Burnet investigated reported sightings of theUltra Beasts, only to find nothing.

The altar made further appearances fromFamily Determination! to10,000,000 Reasons to Fight!.Lillie andGladion traveled there in order to get help from Alola'sLegendary Pokémon in order to save Lusamine fromUltra Space, being followed and soon joined up byAsh,Professor Kukui, and the rest ofLillie's classmates. At the altar, the group was surprised by the sudden appearance of the fourguardian deities of Alola, who showed them the birth ofNebby, which Ash hadpreviously witnessed in a dream. The guardians then proceeded hold a ritual for Nebby, allowing it to evolve intoSolgaleo. After Ash had gotten hisZ-Ring upgraded into aZ-Power Ring by the guardian deities, he and Nebby were able to useSearing Sunraze Smash to open up anUltra Wormhole for Ash, his classmates, and Gladion to travel through into Ultra Space. After rescuing Lusamine, the group returned to the altar through another wormhole.

The altar appeared in a flashback inThe Professors' New Adventure!, where it was revealed that Nebby had left after the group's return to their ownworld, having returned to living in thewild.

The altar reappeared inFilling the Light with Darkness!, where theUltra Guardians met up with Lusamine, Faba, Wicke, and Professor Burnet, soon also joined by Gladion. Once there, Lusamine led the Ultra Guardians to ruins the had been recently discovered inside the altar, where they saw ancient murals depicting "the Blinding One". When they returned from the ruins, they witnessed aLunala emerging from an Ultra Wormhole, being chased by aNecrozma. The Ultra Guardians set off in pursuit of the two in thefollowing episode.
