AnAlolan form (Japanese:アローラのすがたAlolan form) is aregional form found inAlola.
List of Alolan forms
In the core series games
Generation VII
A total of eighteen Alolan forms were introduced inGeneration VII, all for Pokémon introduced inGeneration I. InPokémon Sun and Moon, if a Pokémon evolves from a species that does not have an Alolan form to one that does, such asCubone, it will always evolve into its Alolan form and cannot evolve into its original form. InPokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the Pokémon will evolve into its Alolan form while in Alola itself, but can also evolve into its original form while inUltra Space.
WhilePokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! take place inKanto, players can import Alolan forms fromPokémon GO or receive them fromin-game trades.
Generation VIII
InPokémon Sword and Shield, Alolan forms of Pokémon present in theGalar Pokédex are unavailable by normal means and can be obtained by transferring them from other games. Alolan forms of Pokémon included inThe Isle of Armor expansion are available as rewards for finding hidden Alolan Diglett on the Isle of Armor, and AlolanExeggutor andMarowak can be obtained from in-game trades with Regina in exchange for their respective Kantonian forms. InThe Crown Tundra, certain Alolan forms can be obtained fromDynamax Adventures. An Alolan Meowth also appears in theNPCPokémon Camp onRoute 7.
Alolan Pokémon are not present inPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
InPokémon Legends: Arceus, an Alolan Vulpix can be obtained after completingRequest 83.
Generation IX
InPokémon Scarlet and Violet, Alolan forms of Pokémon present in the game can be obtained by transferring them from other games. In addition, Alolan Exeggutor, Alolan Vulpix, Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Diglett, Alolan Dugtrio, Alolan Grimer, Alolan Muk, Alolan Geodude and Alolan Graveler are all found in theTerarium as part ofThe Hidden Treasure of Area Zero's second expansion,The Indigo Disk, marking the first time Alolan Pokémon have been obtainable in the wild since Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. However, due to the Terarium being located in the Unova region rather then Alola proper, Alolan Pokémon bred without the use of an Everstone will result in the offspring being their Kantonian counterparts, and Exeggcute and Pikachu will evolve into their Kantonian forms rather then their Alolan forms.
The player may also trade most Pokémon they've caught themselves withSalvatore for an Alolan Meowth once they've invited him to theLeague Club Room. Alolan Raichu was made available to encounter in aMass Outbreak event between July 12 to 25, 2024 in theCoastal Biome of theTerarium.
InPokémon Legends: Z-A, an Alolan Raichu can be obtained after completingSide Mission 108.
In theMega Dimension DLC, Alolan Raichu, Meowth, Persian, and Marowak can be caught inHyperspace Lumiose.
In the spin-off games
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Alolan Raichu, Vulpix, and Exeggutor appear as Pokémon that can appear fromPoké Balls inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Similarly, as part of the "Alola to Alola" event running from May 25 to June 1, 2022, Cubone could evolve into an Alolan Marowak that knowsShadow Bone, instead of Kantonian Marowak.

Trivia

- According to an interview withShigeru Ohmori, regional forms were inspired bycases of speciation induced by region isolation, specifically mentioning theGalápagos Islands as a direct inspiration. In addition, Ohmori mentioned that AlolanExeggutor was the first regional form of aPokémon to be designed, and inspired the creation of other Alolan forms.[2]
- InPokémon Sun, Moon,Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, when a Pokémon undergoesEvolution into a regional form, the background in the Evolution animation is green, as opposed to the blue background used for all other Pokémon. Conversely, when aPokémon Egg hatches into a regional form, the background is blue instead of yellow. Additionally, a different arrangement of the Evolution music is played in both of these situations.
- Alolan forms are the onlyregional forms whose original forms were all originally introduced in a single generation (Generation I) or region (Kanto).
- Alolan forms are also the only regional forms without any members with an exclusive Evolution.
- Some Pokémon with Alolan forms have unique distinctions:
- Raichu is the only Pokémon whose regional form has access to anexclusive Z-Move.
- Meowth is the only Pokémon to have more than one regional form with them being for different regions, as it has both anAlolan andGalarian regional form.
- Meowth is also the only Pokémon to have both a regional form and aGigantamax form.
- Geodude,Graveler, andGolem are the only Pokémon in a three-stage evolutionary line to all have regional forms.
- Marowak is the only Pokémon whose regional form does not share at least one of its types with itspre-evolved form.
