History
Red, Green & Blue arc

When Red first metGiovanni inMake Way For Magmar!, he gave Red an ancientfossil known as theOld Amber, which contained a DNA sample of an ancient, now extinct Pokémon, as a reward for stopping twowildMagmar that were causing a fire at thePewter Museum of Science. When Red later encounteredBlaine at theCinnabar Island inHoly Moltres, they faced with theLegendary birdMoltres, which was under the control ofTeam Rocket. Even Red'sWater PokémonGyara was unable to defeat theLegendaryFire-type, and Blaine realized that to stand a chance against theFlying-type Pokémon, they needed a Flying type of their own. When seeing Red's Old Amber, Blaine sent him to the Island'slaboratory, where Red was able to revive the Amber into an Aerodactyl. With this new Pokémon on his side, Red was able to make Team Rocket retreat.
When Red later met up with Blaine again inAnd Mewtwo Too?!, he joined him in a battle against the Legendary Genetic PokémonMewtwo. Although Mewtwo seemed practically impossible to stop, Red finally managed to use Aero to glide through Mewtwo'sPsywave tornado in order to get close enough to sendPika in with Blaine'sMaster Ball, successfully catching Mewtwo.
InLong Live the Nidoqueen?!, Aero battled Giovanni at theViridian Gym. When Red was pushed into a corner, he managed to call Aero out and attackGiovanni's Beedrill withHyper Beam, knocking him out. Giovanni then switched to his type specialty ofGround Pokémon and had hisRhyhorn useTail Whip to take Aero out of the fight.
As revealed inQuilava Quandary, Aero was a part of the team Red used during thePokémon League.

Red had Aero useTake Down onScizor, which dealt norecoil damage due to hisRock Head Ability. Aero followed up withDragon Claw on Scizor, so Blue switched him out forRhydon. Seeing an opening, Red has Pika attackMachamp with an electric attack. To Red's surprise, the attack is suddenly redirected. Blue smirks and reveals that Rhydon has theLightning Rod Ability, which causes allElectric-type moves to be redirected towards him. Since Pika's Electric attacks had no effect, Pika jumps into the air and delivers anIron Tail onto Machamp's head. The battle then ends in a tie.

Later Red sent Aero out in his battle againstOrganism No. 2. However, the DNA Pokémon proved to be too strong for the Fossil Pokémon, as he was first badly slugged by Organism No. 2's powerful punch and then had his wings pierced byAttack Forme Organism No. 2's tentacles. He was soon nearly killed along with Red's other Pokémon while defending hisTrainer from Organism No. 2'sPsycho Boost. Due to his injuries, Aero was unable to use Fly, and as a result, Red had to temporarily tradeBlue's Charizard into his team to use as aerial transportation.
