Ochrophyta je skupina uglavnomfotosintskih heterokonta .[ 4] [ 5] Njihoviplastidi vode porijeklo odcrvenih algi .[ 6]
Klasifikacija grupe se još uvek razrađuje. Neki autori (npr.Cavalier-Smith ) dijele je na dva potkoljena,Phaeista Cavalier-Smith 1995 (koje sadržiHypogyristea iChrysista u nekim klasifikacijama, iliLimnista iMarista u drugima) iKhakista Cavalier-Smith, 2000 (koja sadržiBolidomonas idiatomeje ).[ 7] Drugi radije ne koristetaksonomski rang potkoljena, navodeći samo nižetaksone .
