Holarktik iliholarktis (grč. ὅλος —holos = sav, sve + ἄρκτος —arctos = sjever) jebiogeografska oblast koja obuhvata veći dio Sjeverne hemisfere. Južna granica ovog područja prolazi sjevernim dijelomMeksika,Atlantskim okeanom južno odZelenortskih otoka, sjevernim dijelovimaSahare, istočnim dijelomArapskog poluotoka,Himalajima, južnim dijelovimaKine,Filipinskim morem južno odTajvana iJapana, pacifičkim sjeveromHavaja.

Palearktik se često dijeli na manje ekozone,Palearktik iNearktik, koji obuhvataju područja Holarktika u Starom i Novom svijetu.[1][2]

Floristička carstva

U florističkom zoniranju, holarktik ima status carstva, podijeljenog na nekoliko potstava. Postoje različite verzije njegove podjele.

Zaleđivanje upleistocenu dovelo je do iscrpljivanjaevropske flore. Većinapliocenskih biljaka je izumrla. Neke porodice, poputMagnoliaceae,Hamamelis (Hamamelidaceae) iStyrax (Styracaceae) ostale su samo uSjevernoj Americi iAziji.

U zoniranju, holarktik (arktogea)[3] je podjeljen na dva područja:neoarktičko ipalearctičko. Na jugu nema jasne granice, ali postoji prelazna zona u druge biogeografske regije. Na kontinentuAmerika to jeSrednja Amerika, uAfriciSahara. U zapadnoj Aziji tranzicijska zona jeArabijsko poluostrvo, ne računajući njegov južni dio.
