In this session,Cassie Tarakajian joins us to talk about all things p5.js, the Processing Foundation, and open source software. Cassie is a technologist, educator, and artist, currently working at Processing Foundation as the p5.js web editor lead and as an adjunct professor at Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU.

We asked Cassie about how the p5.js library was developed, what the Processing Foundation does to make programming accessible with p5.js, and what it means for software to be open-source. Cassie also gave us a tour around thep5.js web editor, an online code editor for p5.js projects. The web editor allows you to create, save, and share your p5.js sketches with no extra setup.

Here are some Stack Overflow questions related to the work we did in this session:

Finding an open source project to contribute to

Using open source software

The difference between free software and open source software
