73 thoughts on “218 New Papers Added to Newspapers.com!

  1. Once again, nothing from Chicago (such as the Chicago Daily Journal, 1844-1929, entirely in the public domain) and almost nothing from New York City. I made my requests many years ago. I was promised something by the end of 2024, and it’s now 2026.

Weiser, Idaho (population 6,000) has better coverage than the Bronx (population over 1,400,000). The NYC newspaper microfilms are stored in the New York Public Library’s Stephen Schwarzman Building–named after the guy who owns Newspapers.com. The Bronx also has about half a million more people than the entire province of Nova Scotia (heavily added in this update). Newspapers.com has to do one essential newspaper, the Bronx Home News. I cannot possibly imagine what the problem still is.

A papernership with Gannett was announced, but I don’t see those newspapers in this update. Maybe you can make a special note of the Gannett newspapers?

  2. Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I am curious why the public domain (pre-1955) issues of Melbourne, Australia newspaper The Herald aren’t on here, given that nearly every other public domain Melbourne newspaper issue has been added. (It should not be confused with Sydney Morning Herald, which has been on newspapers.com for years). I enjoy making clippings of Melbourne advertisements so having The Herald on here would add to my fun.

Other than that, very cool! These update posts are even more exciting than pizza!

  3. Newspapers, com’s customer service is non-existent. They won’t return emails and you can’t reach anyone by phone. My experience has been much like the above post by Barry. There is no way to get a response regarding newspapers that are not included. That’s the reason I’m not renewing my subscription.

    1. I got my subscription screwed up, now have v two subscriptions, and I can’t cancel one because I can’t reset the password (long story…). No one will respond to me. They think you should be able to do everything online and when you can’t, you’re just screwed. The subscription renews automatically, so now I’m going to have to cancel my credit card or it will be automatically billed. I’m writing to my congressman. I think there should be a law that says companies have to have a human answering a phone and have to respond in a reasonable time frame.

      1. I will have our customer support team reach out to you today.

    2. Hi Gordon, all of the newspaper requests are reviewed by our team. Please know that every effort is made to get the content, and sometimes that requires lengthy negotiations. Feel free to check back often to see if we’ve digitized the papers you are interested in. Thanks!

      1. Is there any hope for New Haven, Connecticut? The Morning Journal-Courier archives are only available through 1908 and then that’s it, no more J-C and no New Haven Register. I’ve added it as a suggestion repeatedly, but am starting to lose hope …

My dad was a paperboy for them in 1944 (https://toomuchbrudders.com/2020/10/09/the-paperboy/), and I’d love to have access to those papers.

        Thank you.

  4. Thanks for the additions. I hope that the Mobile, Al papers (Mobile Press, Mobile Register, and Mobile Press Register) will eventually be added.

  5. I appreciate all the additions, but I’ll suggest again: cold you please put the city with the newspaper name? “The News” in California is meaningless. Yes, we can click the link to get the details, but I’ll bet that most people are like me– after following three or four links we’re not interested in we give up, and potentially miss a paper we ARE interested in. Thanks!

  6. Will there be any concentration to add Irish newspapers for Cork (Queenstown back in the day) during the famine years and later? Something in the 1840 to 1880 time frame would be ideal for my genealogical appetite.

  7. I would love to see some papers from Lowell, Massachusetts. Much of my family settled here and I know that they have been indexed as years ago I went to the Lowell History Center to obtain some articles. Unfortunately, I am no longer local and have much more I would like to collect.

    Ginny

    1. Hi Ginny, we have The Sun and The Lowell Daily Sun, though we don’t have the full run of all issues. I will ask our team if we can expand the collection.

  8. I could use some more Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania papers.

    1. Hi Colm, I also have ancestors from Westmoreland County, and would love to see more papers. We’ll do our best!

    2. Me too!

  9. Any hints in ancestry.com from Portage, PA are unavailable to read with no explanation. That is my home area. Makes me want to cancel my subscription

    1. Jack, can you elaborate on the issue you are having? While we don’t have any papers from Portage, we do have papers from nearby Ebensburg, Nanty Glo, and Johnstown. We’d love to understand why you’re having trouble seeing your Ancestry hints. Please email our customer service team for further assistance:support@newspapers.com.

  10. The Miltary post newspaper The Monmouth Message from the former Fort Monmouth, NJ would be amazing. I think the microfilms are at CECOM HQ at Fort Meade, MD.

  11. I am paying for publisher’s plus, but it does not show that.

    1. Hi Jo, our customer service team will be happy to help you. Please email them at:support@newspapers.com.

  12. Boy, are there some Chronic complainers!
I do not see all the newspapers I would like either but, I have found so many gems and loads of family connections to ancestors. I’m grateful for all I have found. I hope in newspapers quest to get so many requests in will be fruitful in the new year.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Elizabeth! So glad you’ve found some gems in your research.

    2. Hear, hear! Totally agree with Elizabeth Ann Thomas!

    3. Agree with you too.

  13. The Coffeyville, Kansas, newspapers of the 1920s would be a significant addition in regards to baseball greats Walter Johnson and Frank Wickware, as well as race relations in the U.S. at that time.

    1. Hi Mark, we do have Coffeyville, Kansas papers from the 1920s. However, when I searched for “Frank Wickware,” all the results came from papers outside Coffeyville. You might want to consider expanding your search perimeters. Good luck!

  14. Most of the new papers seem pretty small and secondary. I would love to see the Yakima Herald Republic from Yakima, Washington. I know the microfilm is at the Yakima Regional Library.

Also, how about either the Seattle Times or the Seattle PI?

    1. Both the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post Intelligencer are available and searchable online through the Seattle Public Library, but one does need a Seattle Public Library card to access this resource.
If you’re not from Seattle perhaps you have a friend or relative who would allow you to use their card for this purpose?

    2. The Seattle Times is now being added on Newspapers.com. Expect it to add more issues in the coming weeks. Here’s the link:https://www.newspapers.com/paper/the-seattle-daily-times/33620/?tab=overview.

    3. Agree with you re Yakima and Seattle papers. Also, how about Tri-City Herald and the Richland Villager.

  15. Wow, currently newspapers.com is at 1,175,093,817 pages! Keep up the good work! Let’s aim for 2 billion pages!

    1. Thanks, Matthew!

    2. Hello Cousin, from Canada Elizabeth Argall-Andrews

  16. Please obtain all the copies you can of the Olyphant Gazette and its successors. Seehttps://www.loc.gov/item/sn87078273/

  17. Would love to see these newspapers added:

    Canada-Montreal Newspapers:

    the gazette
    la presse
    le journal de montreal

    1. Any Chance on getting any of these 3 papers?

  18. I’ve been pushing for the Castro Valley Reporter (California). I have a perhaps the only digital copy outside of The University of California library system (cost me $500) that I would send them for free, no cost to digitize. Much more extensive that most of these newly added papers. It is still subject to copyright, but so are lots of other newspapers they have, including some from the same owner, Bay Area News Group. Pretty disappointing.

  19. Still No new Pennsylvania Papers From Schuylkill & Dauphin Counties 🙁

    1. I would LOVE to see papers from Schuylkill County! Much of my family is from that area.

  20. Brownsville Telegraph, Brownsville, PA would get lots of hits

  21. Thank you for finally adding the Devils Lake Daily Journal. You only have 8 editions from 1956; does that mean the rest will come in due time? Lake Region Public Library (423 7th St NE, Devils Lake, ND 58301) has the rest on microfilm.

  22. Can you please add the New York Post, Boston Herald, Chicago Sun-Times, Providence Journal, Denver Post, Dallas Morning News, Toronto Sun, Calgary Sun, San Diego Union-Tribune, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the St. Paul Pioneer Press in the coming months? Can you also please add more of the New Orleans Times Picayune from 1977 to the present too?

    1. Hear hear!

    2. Agreed!

  23. The Citizen-Standard Newspaper Valley View PA
offices are located at 104 West Main St in Valley View Pa.
The Citizen-Standard serves upper Dauphin county, lower Northumberland county and western Schuylkill County and the seven school districts located in that footprint: Tri-Valley, Pine Grove, Williams Valley, Upper Dauphin, Millersburg, Halifax and Line Mountain.
The Valley View Citizen Printing Co. was formed in 1929
The Valley View Citizen Printing Co. published weekly newspapers, the Valley Citizen and the Herndon News. The publications covered news and events, much as The Citizen-Standard still does today.

  24. The Upper Dauphin Sentinel newspaper serves the community of Millersburg, Pennsylvania, providing comprehensive coverage of local news, events, and stories that matter to its residents. Located in the heart of Dauphin County, Millersburg is a small town with a rich history and a close-knit community.

    https://www.thepaperboy.com/newspaper.cfm?PaperID=2146114861

  25. Former newspapers based in or covering the Halifax, PA area include the Gazette Weekly Journal (active around 1890) and references to a Halifax Gazette. The nearby Millersburg Sentinel (founded 1884) also covered the region, having absorbed the Millersburg Herald in 1918.
Historical Newspaper Details for Halifax, PA:
Gazette Weekly Journal (c. 1890): Advertised locally in the late 19th century.
Halifax Gazette: Identified in historical clipping searches.
Upper Dauphin Sentinel / Millersburg Sentinel (1884-2021): Served the broader Upper Dauphin County area, including Halifax.
Millersburg Herald (Pre-1918): Served the local area before merging with the Sentinel.
Regional Coverage: Newspapers from Harrisburg, such as the Harrisburg Telegraph (1879-1948), also covered news from the Halifax area.
For accessing these archives, the State Library of Pennsylvania Digital Collections

  26. Thanks again for these additional publications. I have previously requested the following:

Carlton County (MN) Vidette (published since 1888)
The Dell Rapids (SD) Exponent (began publishing in 1879)
The Pipestone County Star (MN) (published since 1879)

These would be extremely helpful to see.

  27. I would like to see The Times Picayune from 1930 on.

    1. Hi Dudley, We recently digitized The Times Picayune and have 1842 through 1977 on the site. There are gaps through 1914, but after that, it is complete. We are currently unable to proceed with more recent issues because they are still under copyright.

  28. I love newspapers.com and appreciate all the new papers being regularly added! One area of improvement would be to enable the reader to see the masthead of the specific newspaper edition they’re reading without having to scroll to the top of the front page; this is because in my experience about 30% of the time the newspaper title in the metadata doesn’t match the title on the masthead, the latter being essential for correct citations. Thanks for your excellent and continuously improving service for the benefit of everyone who loves history.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. I will pass that along.

  29. I’m a long-time subscriber and have been begging for years for the Monterey, California Peninsula-Herald (I want years 1966 – 1969) and Middletown, New York Times-Herald-Union (I want years 1960 – 1966), which should be easy to acquire (the local public libraries have them) but nothing has happened. There are a few sporadic editions of the Middletown paper but definitely not the full archive. It is impossible to contact anyone at Newspapers.com to discuss this.

    1. Matt- just wanted to let you know that we are actively working on getting the Times-Herald-Union.

      1. That’s excellent news Jenny! Note it’s actually titled “Times-Herald-Record” (not Union) but you obviously know the paper I’m talking about. Also note that the Monterey, CA Peninsula-Herald is available for free on the City of Monterey website (monterey.gov) but only up to 1964 ..so I would like to see Newspapers.com acquire the years 1965-69 (at least) ..which I think would be easy to negotiate. Thanks.

  30. Please . . the Milford Citizen, Milford Connecticut

  31. Mariner Newspapers from 1970s onward in Massachusetts please! Marshfield Mariner especially.

  32. I am sure newspapers.com goal is to digitize every surviving newspaper in the United States. Some papers have exclusive deals with other companies. Some refuse to allow their papers to be digitize. Some people ( you know who you are) view it as a grand conspiracy against them. If you don’t see the papers you need cancel your subscription. Check once a month and resubcribe when you see something you need.

    1. Exactly, I have tried contacting some newspapers and their owners directly about some kind of partnership and no response from them. I’m happy with what Newspapers have added in the last few years and all the partnerships they’ve been able to get. I always hope they can get more, but until they do, there’s only so much they can do. Even after explaining it to some people they still don’t get it.

      1. Phil, thanks for your efforts! We appreciate you!

  33. Would love to see more for Chetek, Wisconsin and Barron County, Wisconsin!

  34. I see Poland newspapers that came on here. These are the same copies that Arcanum has so I may see a partnership with them.

  35. Still waiting for Brockton Plymouth County Massachusetts the shoe capital of the world, first public electricity, home to Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler and more

  36. It’s great to see so many new additions and a lot of updates to ones already added. Keep up the good work, and maybe this year a few more partnerships can be forged to allow more new and updated papers.

  37. Great additions! Please consider adding the Santa Barbara News-Press and the Simi Valley Enterprise.

    1. Hi, good news! We have The Santa Barbara News-Press (years 1924-2020, with a few minor gaps). We hope to add the more recent issues in the future:https://www.newspapers.com/paper/santa-barbara-news-press/33245/. Also, the Simi Valley Enterprise was folded into the Simi Valley Star in 1995, and you can find that title here:https://www.newspapers.com/paper/simi-valley-star/33249/. There is also a significant amount of content from the Star family of newspapers in Ventura County, including the Camarillo Star, the Ventura County Star, and the Thousand Oaks Star. All in all, there are 22 canonical titles in Ventura County and 32 canonical titles in Santa Barbara County available to search.

  38. What are some of the papers expected to be added to Newspapers.com next month?

    1. Hi Kurt. We generally publish a content update towards the end of each month. We hate to say something is coming, only to encounter a delay and disappoint our customers. Keep an eye on this blog or the “New & Updated” section on the site:https://www.newspapers.com/papers/?sort=updated

  39. With regard to the news sources from Nova Scotia, are the digital copies not already available freely at the Public Archives of Nova Scotia?https://archives.novascotia.ca/newspapers.
What have you added that wasn’t already available there?

  40. 2nd attempt at this comment: I’m interested in the San Leandro, CA reporter, San Francisco East Bay, which ran approx 1860-1960, weekly. I’m sure you have many contending priorities! But–The Reporter was a unique window into the Azorean Portuguese immigrant community on the West Coast. I had requested it & given contact info at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. The Bancroft can be bureaucratic though. I have since learned that the San Leandro public library has another set of those microfilms. You can find their webpage.

    Thanks!

  41. Hi Jenny
I’d like to request that you include three papers from what is now Greater London, England.

    1. “Kentish Mercury” which was later renamed as the “South East London Mercury”.

    2. The “Lewisham Borough News”, which ceased publication some years ago.

    3. The “Islington Gazette”.
    Thanks

  42. You have added the New Bedford Standard-Times back in November and December but have stopped at 1969. There is also a gap at 1946-1950. Are these dates and the period from 1970-2024 not available? Thank you very much for your time.

  43. Your all right. We don’t need no stinking updates! We just need the digital chip to make us all feel better! 🙂
